I got the GeForce 7300 GT card today. Removed the stock card and replaced it with the new one. Blank screen. I noticed the new card has a plug to connect to the power supply. The stock one didn't.I connected it to the power supply with one of the surplus connectors. The fan started on the new card but still a blank screen. I put the stock card back and it works. Puzzled Any ideas?

sorry mckrackin, as i feared you don't have enough power to run this card. something else that occurred to me is that, i believe your old card was an ATI. usually a mother board has a certain "chipset". it would be ATI or NIVDIA . usually not either or. you know what i mean? but usually when i under power a vid card that's what i get is a black screen. that's why i run 1000W but as coffin stated earlier i wouldn't go w/anything less than a 500W PSU. sorry mc i really wish i could have been more help to ya

Didn't some of those cards have a separate plug to connect to the motherboard for external power?
Maybe boot into safe mode and see if the card actually works. That'll load basic drivers that either Nvidia or ATI can work with.

Thanks.I think I'll put this on a back burner for a while and just get a more modern machine.

no sol, usually if a vid card has a place to plug power into it's going to come from the power supply itself. allthough i did have an old card that didn't have a plug but the MB did, that's where that card got it's power from, BUT it still came from the PSU. do you catch my meaning? so the power came from the PSU to the MB and to the vid card. a regular molex connection.

one other thing is this, did you remove the drivers for the old card before you installed the new one? sometimes the wrong drivers will cause issues with a new card. also do you get the post screen where there is text? if you do then the vid is working, but also are you hooking it up to the 52 inch right away, then that is the main problem. mainly cause the pc is not seeing the tv yet. you need a normal monitor first get it up and running on that then you can look at migrating to the larger tv.

I tried the little 14" CRT.Still blank. How can I remove old drivers with the screen blacked out?
I don't get any text or anything.Just a black screen.
Thanks for looking into it though.

I gave the PC to my brother. He has ordered a new 500w power supply. When it arrives, can I just plug the video card into the power supply alone to test it? Know what I mean.Use the new power supply to power the card only while leaving everything else plugged into the factory PS.

Another question. When a game says it requires a 256MB NVIDIA 7900....does it mean it requires at LEAST that card or better?Or is it that card specifically?

if your video card is 256 or better it will run fine, if you have say 128, you can turn down the game settings so it will run. if you try to run it at normal or max settings it may crash or be very very laggy.
when they say at least it usually means if you run the game at normal settings that you will not have any issues with the recomended card or above.
2 things that make all games lag alot are shadows and reflections. IE if the game seems sluggish see if you can turn shadows and reflections off. then if its still sluggish look for a setting that is marked details or something to do with the trees and grass. if you can turn something that makes the grass and trees not so precise as in .... you see a grass clump vs a bunch of blades that will also help.
