I just ordered the HK4020 brushless and Commander V2 ESC from Innov8tive. The 4020 turns 1390kv.A bit faster than the stock Align motor. I have a 13T and 14T coming with it. I'll start with 13T and if it's cool enough and still smooth I'll try 14T. I have a friend telling me that the 650L is OK but runs hot so I'll just go ahead and get in front of that issue now. While many use the 4025 I just don't see the need in all that power if you need to put a 20T pinion on to get headspeed. Why not give back a little power and use a smaller pinion? The 4020 is still much more powerful than stock. We'll see

Yup,,,,same same. See,,,,you buy the up-grades now,,,then you have spare parts! ;D

Have you checked into the dimensions? That motor's outside diameter is 48.9mm,,,I believe I measured the frame width at 47mm. Do you have to mod the frame?
I had the 14T pinion in and the temp was about 136 degrees on the motor. I put the 15T pinion in and the hottest it's gotten so far is 128 degrees, go figure. Seems a lot smoother with the 15T.

If there is any mod to the frame it will be minor. I can router out the venting in the frame to accept the motor if needed. I'm planning on some real stick banging very soon so heat may be an issue with the 650L.I rarely do any FFF.Nowadays it's just flip flip roll climb fall etc so the motor gets no breaks. My friend actually carries a can of compressed air to help cool his 650L between flights. It gets HOT

Ah,nevermind.lol... The height is the issue so it is a non-issue. Take away the length of shaft in the pinion and you have a sloppy fit ;D Scorpion measures from tip of shaft to bottom of motor. Plenty of room

Plenty of room You lost me,,,,your motor has an outside diameter of 48.9mm and the frame is 47mm wide. Your body lenght is 46.5mm,,,the 650L body is actually 69mm,,,so yea, plenty of room on the height.

You lost me on the ESC too,,,,,the commander series only operate up to 15 volts. You would have to go to their 6-cell switching BEC series. Or did I miss something?
And you should really use an external BEC/regulator,,,the scorp ESC only have 3 and 4 amp BEC output,,,,,with the rig your building,,,you should be rated for 5 amps continuous and 8 amps surge capacity, or your ESC is going to burn up. The align BEC is rated 6 amp.
I've been looking into these for a 500 build,,,,Innov8tive is actually going to post a 5 amp BEC in the next couple days, I'll wait to see that.
Not trying to second guess you Ernie,,,just trying to help,,,I may be wrong, or I may save you some headaches.

Good eye Elk ;D I had that so messed up that Lucien Miller from Innov8tive actually called me today at work.lol... He asked.."Are you planning to use this ESC and motor together?" Not anymore He told me that I will need to cut the frame to fit the 4020 in so I changed the order to a 4025 1100kv.If I have to cut then let's get nuts huh ;D The 4025 is the one on those "Crack Birds" on Youtube doing the crazy 3D. I changed the order to a 120amp switching ESC which will be back ordered for 7-10 days.No biggie.I'll use the Align till then if I even get ready by then. I still have my little Scorpion motor keychain and sticker sheet coming and I ordered a new Scorpion ball cap.lol.... Oh,I also ordered an Excaliber 1800mAh 2S lipo for a spare BEC battery.$22. I cancelled the pinions since they are Mod .6 and Trex 600 main gear teeth are Mod .7. I need to get on readyheli and get the Mod.7 pinions. Innov8tive suggests 11T or 13T to get 2000 to 2100 rpm for some killer 3D.I'll take that advise. Got another package today.Deans plugs from Hopmeuprc. The heli is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Updates to follow...

I hear that switching BEC is great,,,so you are not going to use the external BEC/reg? Is that the rule for extreme 3D,,,lower head speed and more constant torque? I have no desire for extreme 3D,,,maybe next year! I like the way mine flies at the higher head speed -- 15T,,,,it is more stable than the 14T and the motor seems fine with it,,,it hasn't gone above 130 degrees yet,,,I'm assuming thats safe. The motor ran hotter on the 14T,,,a little. Glad you got it worked. yea,,,that Lucien Miller,,,he's on the ball,,,,,I asked a simple question on BEC and I got 5 paragraph engineering synopsis on ALL BECs,,,,thats how I caught the problem with yours!! ;D Have fun!!,,,,Flying Friday??

No.Not flying Friday It was funny Elk.I planned on getting an RMA over your post. You were dead on!!! That post brought to my attention the problem.F#ck!!!!! Thing is,Innov8tive called first. Now THAT is customer service!!!! While I appreciate Innov8tive's service call, the problem was brought to my attention by you(Elk)first. I was already planning the order change before they called. All you other goons take notice ;D I am building a blade bending menace here. I expect all of you to look for mistakes in my thinking. Same as I look for your mistakes on the smaller stuff. Surely I haven't been rude as hell for nothing over these past few months ;D

Math and Physics!! I wish we had a 'real' explanation of how these motors and their windings relate to the ESC timing that is applied to them!! Then the power would maybe make sense if we knew the timing thing. I am working with 3 phase BLDC motors, but on a much larger scale, and these 'micros' don't seem to correlate. I am working on this.
It could be frequency, current during a pulse period, etc.
3 Phase DC brushless motors are perhaps more of a black art than even RF is.
So, if anyone knows about these things, please speak up. Kent

lmfao ;D I really do appreciate all the input guys. Timing? When did that become an issue? I can't even find the distributer cap

Timing??? No problem,,,,if it doesn't work,,,come back in an hour and try again!! ;D
