Man, Elk, you know how to build a beautiful machine! I just love how you do these!
And, YES, you're going to LOVE that beast!
I can't wait to hear about what you think of it!
Hey Mckrackin, how's your 500 coming along? Still waiting on parts? Kent

You know, I'm also interested in how the S9257's work on the cyclic. Yes these are very fast, but they don't have a lot of torque. But, I suppose they still might be overkill, since there are three of them working on the swash.
On mine, I didn't put the cyclic servo balls all the way out like they mention in the Trex manual. I put them where the link arms are straight up and down when level. I found that I can still get plenty of throw for the cyclic and pitch in the swash menu. I just like the little additional leverage with the link balls farther in. It might all be irrelevant though.
Take care, Kent

I hate it when I forget something on an order. GRRRRRRRR!!! It's easy to do after a crash; you might overlook something only to discover it after the orders a day old. Of course this is a build, so....... ;D ;D ;D
Happy landings

I can't say I like any better than my 600,,,,it's just a totally different animal. I'll do the crazy stuff with my 600(airlifts,,floats,,drag-racing),,,this 500 is going to my 3D training bird!!
Here's the beginning!!;

Is it possible that the weak in torque main servos are stalling when you want to do some 3d?
The S9257's are really weak for torque, but they are fast.
My guess is that they don't have the Oophta to make things happen 'right now', as in 3d.
Just an observation that may have no merit. Kent

Kent I'll be curious to hear the answer myself but I doudt they are a problem.I'm using DS520's on cyclic with the longest servo horn there is for them.Their specs are the same as Elks servos or close and they are plenty torquey to flip a 500 in a million different directions at once. Of course my main gear blew out on the second pack so I'm still waiting to get really wild.lol....

The 9257s are off,,,,,they are really weak servos. I had a hard landing,,due to forgetting to set my timer,,,,the equivalent to dropping the heli about a foot. ALL 3 cyclic servos stripped,,,,there was absolutely no damage to the heli. I tried rebuilding the servos with a metal-gear conversion kit but it was impossible to get the gears seated without really forcing them in,,,,then they were soo tight,the servo motor couldn't run them. I ended up using just the metal gears to replace the stripped gears. The heli was still very slow on the cyclic.
I put the Align 520s on the cyclic. I also changed to the 14T pinion. These changes really helped this bird. Rolls are a lot quicker,,,flips are a little faster, and the power-punches are better. I was getting over 3100 rpms headspeed at 100% with the 15T,,now I'm getting 2880 at 100%.
I like it a lot better now,,,it is every bit as quick and responsive as I'd hoped for.
