Nice looking scratch built foamies kent. How big is that Yak and what do you have for power and elecs? 3D with the right plane just isn't that difficult and it's lots of fun as you've discovered. Precise 3D is altogether another story. I'm about as far away with that with a plane as I am with a heli. I had a similar problem launching the RCPOWERS F117 as you're having with the F22. My first 3 launches went nose in. It takes some up elevator on launch to keep the nose up and a good angle of attack with launch and just the right amount of toss. Not so easy to do without some practice. I have the Eflite Enticement ready to build to replace the Funtana. I've got some scratch builts on the drawing board too. I flew my P51 into a lamp post yesterday on my base leg. Second pilot caused crash in a few weeks. What was I thinking. ???Guess I need to pull my head out of my arse and start paying attention. At least the damage was just foam stuff. It could have been much worse. Edit: I took the P51 out this AM and it flew straight as an arrow. I love this plane. It's been broken into pieces at least 4 times now and still looks and flies great. My wife is after me to build a "Shiny" P51 like some of the ones you see in films and air shows. Well, anything to make the wife happy And I better get it done before Oshkosh because I can just here her walking down the flight line saying, "Why didn't you build a P51 like this or that one over there. They're so shiny." ;D That's a great wife you have there!! I love it! I hear you on 'precise' 3d. That is incredibly difficult. I'm about as good with the plank 3d as I am with the helis with 3d! NOT VERY! But hey, it's all sure fun! The Yak55 has a 32" wingspan. Here's what it's running: HK2730 1500kv motor. A leftover Xheli volcano 30a ESC (way overkill, but it's only a couple of grams heavier than the Turnigy 18 amp). 3s 25C 1000ma Zippies. 9" x 5 pitch prop. It will hover at half throttle and zooms at full throttle. Flight times are > 10 minutes with average flying. I don't remember if I said it, but I programmed in flaperons into this plane! That's certainly different. I'm still experimenting with that. I have two levels of flaps programmed into the idle up switch. I also still love my P51! I did install a rudder servo. That made a huge difference. I have only smacked it once, when I had the aileron servos backwards. If you ever feel like it, I would HIGHLY recommend building or buying one of these Yak-55's in EPP. There are several folks who sell a kit, and the plans are available at: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=964237They list kit makers there, too. This thing flies amazingly well! Oh, and I painted these planes with Rustoleum cans that I had laying around! It doesn't eat the foam at all, and covers well. I was very surprised. Best, Kent

Have not posted in a while, but have not had much time to fly lately. The wind just doesn't seem to let up, best time to fly lately has been during the week, after 4pm, which is hard to get out and do -
I did burn thru 6 packs on Saturday tho, was a bit windy but still had a blast. Been working on getting my maneuvers nice a smooth, and not so jerky. Also spend a little time practicing nose in, and actually starting to make improvement. ie, I can hold it nose in for a few seconds, sometime more, before I would immediately get disoriented. But its really helping me when I fly back toward me.
Think I'm going to get a tripod for my video cam since I have no one to shot for me, cams to big to attach to a hat, even as small as it is (Sony Webbie HD)

I realize I'm a very lucky guy in the wife dept. I try to tell her that often, but probably not as often as I should. I'll definitely do the Yak. Thanks for the specs. That motor sounds great. Oh, oh, another item for the growing list from HK. I've got the free RCPOWERS Extra 300 plans, I need to build that too. Flaperons, I never thought of that. Sounds very interesting. Good to hear your keeping your P51 clean. I built from the airframe kit so I did the rudder, 30A ESC, landing gears and 9x7.5 prop. I fly mine so much the law of averages has caught up with me...4 times: 1 lampost, 1 dumb thumb nose in, 1 50 gal. plastic trash barrell, that JUMPED in front of me, on landing and 1 elevator failure. ;D And I'm with you on that cheap paint. A 4 buck can of Krylon or Rustoleum paints just as good as the hobby stuff and can lasts about 50 times longer.

Either everybody's bored with this thread or I'm the only one flying except Gabe and he isn't posting here for some reason. I wondered how long it'd take to get your attention. ;D So you've got other things to do besides keep up with this forum? I can't imagine ;D It's a great idea to get comfortable with flying in the wind, otherwise there's just too many inside days. And, having a big motor, like in your T28, is just the way to beat the wind. The problem here in the frozen north is that my planes can handle high winds, but the wimp behind the sticks often chickens out. BRRRRRRRRRRRR. ;D

Yeah the cold makes it so hard to work the sticks. I need some mittens or something.

Nice looking scratch built foamies kent. I don't remember if I said it, but I programmed in flaperons into this plane! That's certainly different. I'm still experimenting with that. I have two levels of flaps programmed into the idle up switch. I had flaperons on my T-28 for a while but noticed that I didn't have a whole lot of aileron control and the plane ballooned up when I switched them on. My guy at my LHS suggested spoilerons - waaaaaay better. If you have the DX6i or a radio with good mixing you can program the flaperons for takeoff and the spoilerons for landing based on throttle position.

Kent, I'm going to have to do one of those scratch builds now. They look easy and fun to make and I bet they are a blast to fly and no big deal to crash.
;DYou guys just feed additions. You are all enablers. ;D

Look in the video section for 'Homemade'. I posted a couple of new vids, including one with a Yak55 crash! Was that on purpose for the video? Ummm, you tell me! BT, it costs about 6-8 bucks in foam for a plane, once you have the electronics, to build one. Depron or the blue core fan fold from Lowes is far cheaper, too. I love EPP now, though, as it's virtually indestructible. The depron/blue core will crunch up in a crash. Not so with EPP. The electronics: 8-9 bucks for a motor. 11 bucks for an ESC. Around 3 bucks for each servo (DO NOT buy the SG90. ONLY buy the HXT-900. HUGE difference in quality). 6 props for around 3 bucks. And the most expensive thing: A receiver for your radio. Oh, and batteries! But plank batteries are a small fraction of what a heli needs. Pretty darned cheap! But I'm still amazed when I fly these things and then get out a heli to fly. It's just a night and day difference in flight. Best, Kent

Hey thanks, Gabe! I will definitely do that!
And yes, the flaps balloon up. And with the Yak, I find it flies slower, but not that much better. I can't wait to try Spoilerons now!
Best, Kent

I've never observed flaperons close up, but it makes sense they would balloon up the plane since they are abruptly providing more lift. I think you'd need to lower air speed and dip the nose a bit just prior to deploying the flaperons to help mitigate the balloon affect. Regular flaps do the same thing. Your're right Gabe, one of the main drawbacks of flaperons is the loss of aileron effectiveness. That could be a problem on some final approaches and landings. Spoilerons sound better. Kent, I'm going over to look at that Yak wreck now. BT, you're like the rest of us...Sheep to the slaughter. ;D

... BT, you're like the rest of us...Sheep to the slaughter. ;D Flash back 40 years:Little BT's Mom: "So if all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?" Little BT: "Depends on what's at the bottom of the cliff. Must be something good or they wouldn't have jumped!" ;D
