Timed them: 1st battery was 1:30, 2nd was 2:00. There's a noticeable drop in power about 15 seconds after takeoff with both batteries. They aren't puffed at all. Strange.

You think the esc is bad possibly? All the setings seem ok on the program box. I guess I will order a few more batteries and see what happens. It just sounds too coincidental to have 2 batteries going bad at the same time. Not much else to blame except the ESC unless there is a huge drag/bind somewhere else in the system.

I agree with 19k. Must be something else. My batteries died within a few month period. Not all at once.
It will be interesting to learn what the problem is!

I just thought of something... Some ESCs can be programmed for the number of Lipo cells. If it was programmed for one less than the actual battery, that could let it run for a short time.
Just a thought. Kent

I wouldn't think you'd have any need for anything better.

That's what I was thinking. It's so cheap I wasn't sure if anyone had any bad experiences with it. Eflite wants $89 for a 60amp esc with a 5A BEC. I think at this point they can kiss my grits. I'm done paying for expensive stuff that doesn't really perform that much better.

Wow! That sounds really nice and for $45? Amazing. They are using it sounds like either Japanese or US FETs, which are the main chips that fail and cause fires if crap. The Chinese Fets are crap, so that is a very good thing to read. The Atmel processor is what I design with for mission critical stuff, so those are excellent as well. Others that I have seen use the Silicon Labs 8051 processors. Both should be good, but I like the Atmel better. I have bookmarked that ESC now! Kent

Turns out it was the ESC. Got a pretty long flight time (I think about 5 minutes) on one of my batteries, and the other one puffed up huge and died at about a minute in.
I ordered 2 more of the Turnigy 2650's as a replacement.
I also figured out why my tail was mushy when giving it left rudder. It turns out, for some reason I didn't have the timing on the gyro set correctly for the servo. The dang thing is rock solid now.
Can't wait for the batteries to get here (I paid for the rush).
