Yup yup. It will definitely need a little modification. As far as speeds go, I'm thinking 50 or so on the straightaway, but there's really unlimited vertical. The motor is so strong compared to the weight of the plane. Its really a fun little bird. I'm also thinking about ordering two cheap gyros from Grayson and plugging them into the ailerons and then using the one I have from my Blue Ray for the rudder. High alpha would be a snap at that point. I've never used gyros on planes so it would be a cheap and fun mod - I think. I'd think that you'd be faster than 50, but when you mention unlimited vertical it might not be the fastest prop for speed. I've never used gyros on a plane either. I'd really like to get into that at some point. Keep us posted. The most sophisticated use I've seen with gyros on a plane was on the thrust vectored Sukhoi 37(?) Dave Powers did. Check it out RCPOWERS.com if you haven't seen it yet. Talk about your high alpha

Oh yeah! I saw that video. That plane is amazing. I'm waiting for Dave to make a foamie plan for us!
I fixed the nose gear issue on the plane too. I ended up epoxying two vertical and one horizontal Popsicle sticks to the back of the nose gear assembly. It all seems pretty stable now, considering I literally put the pieces back together like a puzzle. I will see how she holds up tomorrow.
More to come on the gyro. I just got some more double stick tape so I will have to set it up tomorrow.

Took her out today and te nosegear fix worked great! With the spoilerons on, I'm really able to grease the landings at about 5-8 mph. I'm just very careful to keep as much impact off the nose gear as possible. The motor mount busted again, but I used ca and got it back together. Looks like I need a metal mount for sure. This will work for now, I'm just babying her along. Lots of fun with the spoilerons too. I've been doing medium-alpha passes at about 10 off the deck. Been doing a few touch and goes as well. I've also been getting my inverted passes lower and lower. I'm at about 15 to 20 feet now. I'm trying to get them nice and slow too- almost like an inverted high alpha pass. I'll post some picks of the nose gear fix.

You're having too much fun. Time to go back on tour and have someone drop you on your head again. I suggest you add some GG to the firewall if you're going to an aluminum mount.

I went ahead and ordered the cnc mount from Gary at www.customrcparts.com . The stock mount is continuously the weak point for me. I've been through two of them on the new rebuild and two CA glue attempts. They snap very easily on a nose over on the landings - even on a gentle one. I only nose over on a taxi due to the large prop and divits in the soil where I fly. I'm still a little nervous about WOT with the stock mount too. The new mount should arrive soon. I'll try to put it in when I get back next week and post some pics.

Pumping GG behind it will help a lot. You can also make a plywood firewall (LHS has thin ply) and screw that to the plastic one, add a few extra screws to help distribute the stress, and then mount your new CNC one to the plywood.

Ha ha! I've been through two props already on this thing now that I'm landing on asphalt. Apparently, only having a half inch of clearance for the prop on the landing doesn't fair too well on asphalt compared to grass! On my way to buy a 4" Lite Flite wheel. Might look a little silly, but I'm down to one 12x6 prop. The other two are now 10x6's thanks to the asphalt!
