This is the story of super broom. He was forged on a day when those that didn't want to swim in a duck pond were in need of help - super help. It all started with the creation of the F1 Hydro: Then meek and mild Gabe took the Hydro for her maiden voyage and was having a blast until one of the pontoons snapped on a hard turn. He tries desperately to ge it to shore bit a puff of smoke from the engine compartment quickly ended that. And there she floated...for an hour or two: Finally she drifted to shore but was caught in some tall Cat Tail brush, about 15 feet off the shore. Then- Super Broom and his trusty side kick Brown Towel came to the rescue! Gabe was able to Wade knee deep and use Super Broom to reach the injured Hydro. He was also able to use Brown Towel to dry his feet off: Thank you Super Broom! Damage = fried Align ESC, on broken pontoon that needs some glue.

Funny!!! If that's where you live, then it looks awesome! You just need to go get a canoe! It looks like a great place to fly off of water! I too live on a lake, but I won't fly over it until I have a way to retrieve whatever I'm flying 'WHEN' I crash in the water!
Did you scratch build that??? Could you share the plans if so?? That REALLY looks like a blast! Kent

Oh, and I think there should be a way to waterproof the electronics. Baggies or something! I haven't looked into that yet, but there must be an easy way somehow... Humm...

Just what the lonely pilot needs; a bunch of super heroes to keep him company and "bail" him out of trouble. ;D
I've got a few super heroes myself: Aqua Rod, Reel Guy, Mono Boy and their sidekick Lead Man. Many times they have flown high into the sky and worked their magic to bring back planes that have fallen into the clutches of the much feared Giant Oak. Dah, Dah!! ;D

Ha ha! The Avengers of the rc world!
Kent, I'll PM you the plans when I get back on Thurs. It's a really fun little hydro! You will need the stick motor mount from Grayson Hobby though. I forgot to buy it and made my own out of balsa.

Well I completely rebuilt the hydro. I figured out I needed to trim the bottom of the spontoons so they didn't have "feet". I also extended the rudder a little bit so hopefully she will turn better in the water. I also mounted the servos for the elevons on the outside with straight pushrods. I felt like theresas too much slop with all the bends before.
Next I made air scoops on both sides of the hatch so the air would cool the esc. I also created a cool little mount for the motor. It consists of a popscicle stick and two squares of depron. I still have to paint it, but I'll throw some pics up tomorrow.
Kent, 19K, I'll email you tomorrow. I totally forgot.

OK, update:
DO NOT put air scoops on the side of the hatch. The prop kicked water into them and fried my esc. Also, I had an issue with the Hydro pulling to the left. I had to keep right rudder the whole time. I think it has to do with mounting the motor too high. I remounted it and gave it a little angle up and to the right, thinking it was torque roll. I also put it out in front of the nose a smidgen.
Let's see if this helps.

I had a suspicion that the scoops would bring in more than air.
It sounds like you're getting it sorted out.

Well, I had her going great yesterday. Literally ripping around the lake. Then she got some air on the second run. I had the battery back a little bit to weigh the back down - when she hit I lost a sponson again.
Back to the drawing board.

Did you have to call Super Broom in for another save or did you get it in OK on your own?

It was a little windy that day so she floated over to the shore on her own. No need for Super Broom ;D
Its interesting to note that the servos were slowing down since I had mounted them on the outside this time. I thought they were toast. After being on the road for 5 days, I came back and they worked perfect!
Got her all glued and extreme taped together. Going for a test run in the morning.
