Hey Gabe, I'm running HXT-900 servos in my 110mph Funjet!!!! I know, that's probably really dumb, but I'm running only those on all of my foamies! Zero failures! What, $2.60 each? I still haven't swapped those and they are flying great, but I don't push them.. I know, this was a budget build though! 16 buck motor, I don't remember what the ESC cost and 5 bucks in servos! 110 mph! I love it! Kent

That was what originally turned me on to the FunJet - your build. Then, the power of the Darkside got me....

Got her all put together. Had one great flight and checked the data: over 600watts!!
Second flight: sputtered on launch and then the motor just quit completely in the middle of my climb out. It's sitting in a tree 20' up right now, over the water. Guess I'll look for a pool net with an extension tomorrow.

Motor fried. I think I had a bad solder joint and it caused some sputtering. Hit 89amps at one point. I got an email into Dan Sny at gobrushless to get a new one. I'm pretty sure it was my fault.

Oh man. What a bummer!
89 amps!!! WOW!
My low end Funjet is around 800-850 watts consistently.
I am experimenting with 6s now on my Stupid one. I think this will be the ticket. I'm running lower current with smaller props. A 6x4 Speed 400 prop now pulls about 80 amps on 6s, or around 2kw. The 5.5x4.5 (same that I run on my 110mph Funjet) pulls a little less than that.
This thing SCREAMS on 6s!!
Man I wish the new ESC would show up! Kent

Oh, and I can't get a good reading with either of my tachs. I am seeing it bouncing over 40k though. Kent

So, which ESC did you decide on Kent?

Wow! That's great Kent. Did you do any mods to the servo pushrods or airframe?
I'm starting over with the Stryker since it nose-planted and I pulled the Mega 16/40/2.5RC out and stuck it in the FunJet this morning. I was just gonna run it on 4S (making 1200 watts on an 8x6 on the Stryker), but now I'm tempted to just throw the 6S in there and use the ICE100 I had in the Stryker.
Let me know what's up with that airframe - its my deciding factor on what size battery I try today.

Heading out to maiden the FJ on the mega with my 4S power edge batteries. Bench tests showed 600 watts on a 7x5E prop. Let's see how we do

Only in my world do I have two aft COG flights in a week, ruining two good planes. The battery slipped right through the Velcro on takeoff and slid back. Hit a chain link fence and busted the motor mount foam and cracked the joints where the wings meet the fuse.
It looked like it would have been fun.

What a bummer. I imagine the chain link fence acted like a giant cheese grater. Wish I had mentioned this earlier: After my first slipping battery disaster, battery hanging out of the battery compartment swinging back and forth, talk about a CG nightmare, well, you can imagine, I started putting velcro on the battery bottom and in the battery compartment. That plus the strap is pretty fool proof.

Yeah, I had the strap, but didn't realize the battery would slide around like butter. Got velcro ON the actual battery now.

*************************************** MAIDEN SUCCESS! *************************************** I finally got her flying tonight right at sunset. VERY fast, and VERY responsive. I gotta give her a paint job tonight or tomorrow so I can see her at a distance. Here's the data from the ICE50: 08/08/2010 - FUNJET 3rd flight (maiden) Mega 16/40/2.5RC 1332KV PowerEdge 3700mah 50C Battery Phoenix ICE50 Lite APC 7x5E prop Max watts: 592 Max Amps: 37.9 Max RPMs 18,544 Max Temp: 137 degrees Ave Temp 109 degrees You can see by the graph I gave her almost full throttle on the launch, then three WOT passes. They were short just because I wasn't sure if the amps would be under the limit of the ESC.

WOW!!! I wonder how fast you had her up to? A 7x5 prop??? WOW! That's awesome stuff! Yeah, these things will do aerobatics at WOT going over 100 without a hickup, as long as your servos can take it! Heh heh!!! I love it! Kent
