yeah I was talking about a cub of some sort. I was thinking I could put wheels on the top and bottom so I have a choice of landing orientations. Tail first landings? Can you do that? Just wondering! I'm going to California in two weeks to get my surf on, then coming back and committing to something fixed wing. My eventual goal is a big gasser Bipe. ugh ... self loathing......

So what kind of throne are you on during all this dooz. One made of porcelain of the jeweled kind?

Well, according to the topic title, it must be the porcelain type. But, honestly, I have no clue how that relates to "tail first landings", "surfing" and "wheels on both top and bottom".

Thought I'd invent those things since I'll probably need them I've been practicing landings in the sim and.... it ain't pretty

Flying is easy, landing however is the tricky part. Lost a lot of planes in the learning process.
Park fliers that belly land are a great way to learn landings.

Yep, and every plane lands differently.
I'm still challenged landing some of my EDF's that are heavy and fast and where I don't have unlimited approaches and long paved landing areas they have to be dropped dead stick on final and throttled a nano second before touchdown or they bounce like ball. That's kind of hard on the landing gear. I think I'm going to program in flaperons on those planes. That way I could slow them up better.
Belly landing can be tricky too. By definition: belly landing is a controlled crash. My F-86 has a way of finding things in the grass to trip over. Last week I brought it in on, what looked like, a nice patch of grass, that just so happened to be, hiding a large stick that took a chunk out of the leading edge of one wing. Saturday, coming in perfectly level one wing caught and it cartwheeled and almost tore an elevator off. All part of the fun.

I've found with EDFs and flaperons that the plane will tend to stall on an approach. I personally prefer spoilerons. The EDF doesn't stall and it will get the nose nice and high while slowing down the plane. You won't have to worry about bouncing the bird at all - kind of.

Interesting Gabe. I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll give the spoilerons a try.

I try to kick them on after my final approach turn - I've been caught off guard with their flight characteristics during a hard banked turn and lost a plane before.
I just activate them on final approach, dive hard towards the deck and when I pull back on the elevator the nose goes up and stays up and she slows down significantly from the drag of the spoilerons and the frame being in a high alpha position. From there, just feather the throttle for a soft touchdown.
Good luck buddy!
