Well, I'm making the cross country move back to California from Tampa and I need to pack 2 Strykers, the t-28 and the Habu.
Anyone have any tips?

How are ya moving Gabe? i.e. U-Haul/drive or are you having a professional do it and you fly out. I made the move from Melbourne to AZ a little more than 6 years ago and that was a haul. If you drive, bring some TP for the Texas stretch. That's a whole lot of lonely road and no where to drop one if the need arises. I wouldn't be tempted to eat anything new either. Stick to the same routine. If not... buy some baby wipes.
Buy a couple of books on tape. It took 41 hours of drive time From Melbourne to Phoenix. I had to cross the whole state. You're starting on the west coast so you can cut out a couple of hours drive time. It's another 5 1/2 to get to L.A. from Phoenix, but only 2 1/2 to get to the Cali border.
If you're driving I'd take I 75 to the FL Turnpike then pick up I 10. Then it's 10 the whole way to L.A. If you're headed North or South once you hit Cali, you can pick up I 5 in L.A.

I'll personally deliver them in the back of my station wagon for $500.00. No packing necessary.

Haha! Nice one Guzzi!
I'm gonna have movers take everything except the planes and then we're gonna fly. I'm just stumped on how to pack them because they are so enormous.

Hummm sounds to me like you need to make a cross country flight. No really keep one out and as you pass through each different state find an area where you can stop and take a break and pull out one and put it up in the air for a short flight. Be sure to have a camera handy and take a few shots of each flight. What a story for the kids and grand kids. Also be sure to keep a charger handy for hotel stops so you can charge up at night for the next days flights.

I wonder if the movers would let you put some kind of temporary hangers to hang them from in the top of their trailer. Maybe like those sticky hanger things.

Do you know anyone in CA. you can UPS them to? If not, send them to me in CO., and once you get an address, I'll send what's left of them to you.

I like Fireguzzi's idea, Hang them from the ceiling in the moving truck if you can. Or make them the last thing you pack in the truck and set them on top of everything. They will ride fine unless there is a breeze going through the truck.

if hes having movers move then dont pack the planes with them, because they move more then your stuff, they will pack the trailer full if you have left over room they will add for someone else moving to same area and it will more then likely go to the roof. i did this coming out of the army, they dropped my stuff and the truck was still packed with someone elses stuff.
i would take the suggestion of ups well then again ups is not what they use to be, i would say fedex even tho they cost more. find a way to pack them tight, not sure if the wings come off easy as i dont fly planes, but if they do pull them off and pack them super tight in your boxes and mail to a family or friend in cali you trust, or use a family or friend member in fl, have them hold them till you get to ca and have a addy to ship to. or if you have a addy, then ship them the day before you fly.

Took two Strykers, t-28, and the mini AMX to ups. $300 to ship it all. Not bad considering the size of them all.
I was able to put the Habu back in it's original box. I'm having the movers take it with them. Wish me luck!

Yep, good luck in Cal. At least you'll be on the better coast. I dont think either coast is a better one right now, ya one getting tore up by mother nature but the other is getting tore down by politicians... so either way i think ya should stop in the middle of the states away from the coasts and rivers and setup camp lol

Hey all! Well I'm in Cali now, my stuff still isn't here- but the planes are.
UPS damaged all but the Darkside Stryker.
Lightweight Stryker, cracked and bent stabs, same with elevons, missing battery hatch.
T-28: Cracked and bent elevator on both sides at the fuse. Bummer- a lot of time placing cf on these too.
AMX mini: generally bent and warped foam all around. Rudder, missiles, and elevator (cracked).
Filing a claim for $1,069 (I have $3,000 in insurance I paid for). I'm asking for all new planes. Let's see what happens. I'm really, really pissed at this whole thing.
