48" is a big foamy. I'm going to get both. I might get the smaller one first. I try to carry 4-6 planes with me so the smaller one would be easier to fit in.
I'd be very interested to see your final setup on the big one.

OK, I ordered the small sniper and now I'm looking for a 2836 250-300 watt motor for a reasonable price without having to wait for the slow boat from china. Anybody got any suggestions?

HobbyPartz has a great selection of Exceed plane motors. I've got a couple of their Rocket motors coming to test.

Thanks Sol. I've used some of the Exceed monster motors and some of the others too. I didn't find one that had the same specs as the 2836. To get the watts and thrust the motors I found are too heavy.
It's kind of a moot point at the moment. After ordering the sniper I find out the guy's out of stock, just like everybody else, and doesn't know when they're coming in.
I guess if there's and iffier place to get stock from than China it might be Korea where the Hyperions are made. The Bigrc owner says the distributor says a container is coming but he doesn't know what's on it. How can that be possible? Sounds fishy to me.
I think I'll order from Empire next time when I know they are in stock.

Humm, if you don't want to wait, there is another 3d plane that is my almost equal to the Sniper. In fact, it does some things far better than the Sniper. It was designed by the same folks who designed the Sniper. It's a newer design with a slightly longer tail moment with bigger control surfaces. Either the SU-29 (newer) or the Yak-55 from RC Factory in the Czech republic. Don't order one from RC Factory, as they will charge you 25% VAT. I made that mistake. These are both sold in Canada by ICare RC. I wish I had known that before I bought mine. www.icare-rc.com/As far as I know, noone in the US carries these. Here is a link to the SU-29. I have one of these. www.icare-rc.com/su29.htmHere is the Yak-55 which is supposed to fly just as well. www.icare-rc.com/yak55.htmThese are somehow lighter than the Sniper. The front radial look helps these to slow down quickly, helping with maneuvers. These also use pull-pull for the elevator and rudder. I would recommend getting the Dubro pull-pull system as it makes it far easier to adjust. These come with carbon fiber landing gear with a G10 mount. Very strong. For these, I'm flying a smaller motor from HK. I don't remember which one, so I would need to look it up. It's red and silver and around 150 watts, I think. I am running this with an 18 amp ESC and 1000ma 30c 3s with HXT-900 servos. These are awesome fliers for sure! I fly this less often as the Sniper as mine has less power than the Sniper. I will upgrade the power one of these days, though! Just more food for your 3d thoughts! Kent

Thanks for the info kent. Definitely some food for thought. I'd seen the SU-29 vid on youtube. I really like the cowl for looks and performance benefits. So what are you going to upgrade the power to on the SU-29? I could go that way...With more power. Sol, I was looking in the 1000kV range. The motor weights can be confusing, at least it is to me, when comparing since some specs don't tell you if the weight includes wiring and connectors. The Hyperion motor recommended for the Sniper: ZS2213-18 weighs about 60grams, is 1042kV and puts out 280 Watts at 25A. The Turnigy 2836 is specified to be 80grams, is 1000kV and puts out 300Watts. I didn't see Amps listed but I'm guessing the 25-30 range.

Well, HC is out of stock on about 90% of their motors, but I'm sure you're aware of that. Anyway, PM sent.

Here is the motor that I'm running in the SU-29: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5687But alas, they are sold out of this one, too! It is running about 150 watts. You might find that something like this flies just fine for you. It does have fair punch and hovers at about half throttle. It's just not a rocket like my Sniper. If you are into smooth 3d, then this might be better, as it's lighter... Right now, I'm enjoying thrash mode 3d! For example, I like to get it way up there, then do a stall turn coming straight down at full throttle and full left aileron. Then BOOM into a blender with full down and full right rudder added! Then get it into a knife edge spin or flips at WOT! For harriers, low hovering, torque rolls, and other slow maneuvers, it's actually better than the Sniper, as it's lighter. Humm... Kent

Grrr. ;D My SU29 was supposed to be here yesterday and then I get a notification from FEDEX it's going to be another week.
I was wondering why and then my wife, always more in the know about world affairs than me, informs me that the PO in Canada is on strike. So I'm assuming that FEDEX uses the Canadian PO for part of its fulfillment like they do here in the US and therein lies the problem.
I just hope that the SU29 shows up next week and hasn't been subject to some PO workers frustrations in the process.

I would be surprised if FedEx relies on Canada Post as they are not related here as far as I know. I would presume FedEx is backed up considerably due to the postal strike and that's likely the reason for the delay.
Either way, it's a major inconvenience for everyone involved. I've got a time sensitive package that needs to be sent to the US via airmail, so I hope this gets resolved quickly. The Canadian government is expected to intervene with results within the week. Hopefully.

You may be right about that sol. I was making an assumption based on the relationship the PO and FEDEX has here. They don't make a big deal about advertising it since, in reality, they are competitors and have done some serious bashing to each other in the past.
We'll, I hope your pkg gets out and mine makes it here by next week. Sometimes the govt. needs to get involved when public interest is involved.
