Yes, great stuff r/c. Congrats on getting it all worked out.
I have a bunch of those target Rx's and I trust them as much or more than the spektrum parkflyer sizes.
Kevlar thread is great stuff for adding strength with little added weight and is a lot less expensive than using the thin CF rod you find in many kits.

Well the Extra 300 broke. I was flying it last night at WOT and was thinking to myself hey the elevator doesn't flutter anymore at high speeds, then after about 5-10 secs. of flying at WOT all of a sudden the elevator started fluttering real bad, worse then before and even when I slowed down to land. Landed with no problem.
Turned out the elevator broke in the center at the weakpoint. I have to make a new elevator now. It flew great before that happened. It doesn't like flying inverted very well, it acts very super cubish when flying inverted, I did manage to fly 2-3 circuits in a row inverted though. I love how it hand launches so nice and slow.

You might want to glue something like a toothpick across the narrow part of the rudder for strength.

I haven't had a chance to fix it though, I've been working alot of hours at mcdonalds. In the past 48 hours I've been there 4 different times, I feel like I live there sometimes.

I was thinking of those heavy duty toothpicks. You find them in party supply places, etc. Plenty strong without much of a weight penalty, if that's important, in your set up.

Yeah those would work a lot better than little tiny tooth picks. lol Extra 300 is still down for the moment, just don't have the time to fix it yet.

I'm thinking about building my next dollar tree foam plane. I'm thinking about a mini ultra stick. Why would I build a plane that's so ugly you may ask, cause its the most simplest plane that has a full fuselage. ;D www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFL2250I'll probably make a little smaller version of this though to accommodate my 370 motor.

That's a great design and a hugely popular plane. I think a scaled down foam version would really be neat.

Got the main wing cut out now also, now I have a problem. I can't decide if I should put the elevator and rudder servo on the out side of the plane or on the inside like the super cub. I would mount it on the out side for ease of access but then on the inside for better, cleaner looks. On a side note, flew the extra 300 through 3 packs tonight while my t28 and super cub are gathering dust. I think it and the stingray have become my new favorite planes and ironically there the cheapest, built out of materials that weren't supposed to fly.

This build is going alot slower than I thought it would. I have a few more hours needed to finish it. Now I don't know what to do, the mini stick is pretty small, it has a wingspan of 25" and a length of 20" which is pretty small to have seperate standard electronics. I was thinking of maybe just having it be 3 channel with throttle, aileron and elevator and no rudder to save weight and simplicity. Whats your guys opinion on this? I noticed Horizon has a mini warbird set up like this. www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFL6075

It depends on how you want to fly it. That small of a plane doesn't need a rudder for steering, taking off crosswind and landing in the same, but if you want to do aerobatics that require a rudder then you need it for that.

I think I'll try building it without a rudder. The main reason I'm building it is just to see if I can build a full fuse plane out of dollar tree foam. I checked the glide ratio and it seems to glide nice without any electronics, nice and level. One thing I noticed is that alot of planes this size are powered with a 250 to 300 size motor and I'm putting in a 370. Should be powerful.

That should be interesting with the big motor.
