It was bound to happen sooner or later.
Good job by the undercover team. That's the way it should go down.
Of course there will be some public out cry to ban all RC airplanes. Knee jerk reactions will prevail. The FAA will want to control RC, which they already do, to some extent. More restricted airspace, etc.
If the Govt. would just do their job, like they did in this case, nothing would have to happen to the RC hobby. The problem is not with the instruments that are used, or potentially used, by terrorists; RC planes, windowless panel vans or fertilizer, it's about finding the bad guys that want to use them.
Speaking of finding things/people: How about finding those 20,000 missles that disappeared from an unguarded Army warehouse and the people that stole them?

20 some odd pounds of C4 thrown against the Pentagon would barely be considered a mess.lol...
Just an attention getter. Never any real risk.
A 747 with 100,000 pounds of jet fuel didn't make much of an impact.

If you look at the planes that guy wanted to use, they will already both be too heavy without any payload!
By the time you add a GPS enabled automated flight system and enough fuel (assuming it's a turbine) to go several miles from some runway, there will be no more carrying capacity! I doubt it would even take off. Model turbines are HUGELY inefficient fuel hogs. Assuming one of those jets could carry anything more, a pound or two of any explosive will be just enough to scratch the paint of the pentagon. As Earn said, a REAL jet full of fuel did little damage.
And those jets, again assuming turbine, are VERY expensive!!!!
Really, no terrorist in their right mind would do something this stupid, unless they wanted to attack the freedoms of RC folks. That could work in this society.
I really believe that this wannabe terrorist is just a nut case. ==== I also just got an email from Tower saying that the DOT now wants to change the shipping status of model rocket motors to EXPLOSIVES! It has been 33 years with ZERO incidents. I wonder what that's all about?
Ugh. Kent

That what I thought, 5 pounds of explosives wouldn't do much. I also got the same email from Tower, which that isn't good either.

This isn't the first time the Govt. has tried to tag rocket motors as explosives, which, in my view, is not only stupid; it's insulting to assume that the public is as ignorant as they are.
It's very difficult to make a model rocket motor explode. They are designed to burn rapidly; not explode. You'd have to add an accellerant, like extreme heat or extreme pressure, to make the rocket motor explode. So how is this going to happen in a box being shipped on a plane or truck? If there was that much heat or pressure present the vehicle would already be toast.
Doesn't the DOT & the FAA have anything better to do than mess with our hobbies?

Back when I was building my Folker D7 they said thet the same thing was going on across the border but instead of explosive's it was drugs. Mine was big enough to carry almost 20 lbs but it was so slow you could take it out of the air with a rock!!. Ray

A 747 with 100,000 pounds of jet fuel didn't make much of an impact. it took a airplane to break thru the wall, this idiot defenitly didnt know anything about c4, its high explosive but hello the pentagon is designed to take blasts duhhhhhhhhhhh... thus it would be like o hell we need some new windows and paint someone just thru some c4 at us.
