Yes, this is a good debate. On one hand it's about personal rights to do, and on the other hand, bans not to do. Part of the bottom line on that is the law is the law. Good, bad or stupid. The other is the freedom to do what you'd like to do and maybe using the law to justify it. That doesn't neccessairily make it right.
I don't try to rationalize whether a lawnmower blade is more likely to maim or kill than an airplane to justify what I do. I just try to decide, based on my personal experience, whether I think I "might" put a person at risk. Having seen my own "foam" aircraft dig huge holes in asphalt; I think about how that might have been if I'd been so unfortunate as to hit a person instead of the tarmack just because I didn't take the possiblity into account.
I'm not so concerned as to random actions by others, the odds of what may, or may not, happen, to me or others, as I am about the actions that I have control over. That is a responsibilty I will not rationalize for my own convenience or enjoyment.

You said he was from down the street i would talk to the neigbors in the emmediate vacinity what they think and if they are concerned. have the plane in hand let them feel it and touch the foam. then if they are ok with it keep flying, if he returns let him touch it and then tell him you will not fly it in his direction. and tell him you have taken his concern to those who would be effected by a mishap and they are ok with it. that solves the issue, because now hes worried not at risk and those who would be at risk are ok with it.

Great idea CoffinsNail. Everyone in my immediate area seems to really enjoy them. Most bring their kids out to watch, others ask where they can get one.
I think that's what I'll end up doing.

It makes the most sence since ya said he walked down the street. Also ask him if he has checked out any of the new stuff since his dads accident, and inform him he should check before assuming the newer stuff is as dangerous, i mean just what 30 years ago a home pc was rare, now its cheap and everyone has one. Did he think that model airplanes and helis stopped progressing? i mean hasnt he heard of uav's that the militray uses? i mean come on i understand being safe, but paranoid is idiotic when you dont have the facts, just one scare.

Haha! Yet another awesome idea.
I look so much less menacing with my glasses on, holding a DX7.
