Well check this out then: www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/NGH9.htmlNGH 9cc gas engines. Good for .40's to .52's I'm going to wrap my next plane around one of these. A high wing Cessna 182 I'm hoping. Dude... I'm telling ya, gas is not more expensive than nitro. Not even upfront costs. You'll need less fuel, and the fuel is a lot cheaper. You'll stay in the air longer too. Two drawbacks come to mind with gas 1) Smell, and I use coleman fuel for that reason and 2) Power to weight ratio. But you're flying a trainer and unless you plan on flying hard core 3D, how much power do you need? But I'll stop pushing. Just wanted to get that out there.

Dang Dooz, I didn't realize they make that small of gas engines. I'm still planning on going nitro for now, mostly because I already have experience with nitro engines from my rc cars.
Just checked the stock of the Alpha 40 and now its back ordered from horizon, I was a day or two away from ordering too. Oh well it will leave me more time to research.

don't want to hijack the thread, and we can discuss this elsewhere if r/c minds, but It was a toss up for me whether I was going to build a heli or plank first this season. I had a little extra cash because all of my kids are working now, and one is finished with college. I just about bit on the HWC 600 conversion kit. You might not remember but at the end of the Arizona flying season in May (I think), I obliterated my helibug. I don't even have a large heli in my rotation I think though, my next one is going to be a Radikal 30. $600 dollars and you get an engine. But, I'm having a lot of fun building/flying planks right now... and the repair costs are much cheaper. Personally, the only electrics I'll ever fly again are the indoor variety, or my practice foamies. For me, it's the roar of the engine, and the tuning. Taking the engine apart, putting it back together and having it actually work. That ::insert sound effect here:: yeeeeeeerrrrroowwww of the plane or heli as it flies by. I don't get the same feeling flying electrics. So... on topic I guess. If I would have seen that little engine above first, I wouldn't be building the Reactor. I'd be building that Cessna 182 I've been eyeballing.

You can hijack the thread all you want Dooz, I got what I wanted out of the thread, as long as you don't hijack any of my planes. ;D
Tonight I mowed the runway again, this time shorter. I flew my t28 and it was amaziinng, I was able to taxi, take off and land without any troubles at all.
But I must of landed too much because on my last landing, just after touch down, the nose wheel rolled off, just like you see in the movies lol. I lost the wheel nut but other than that its fine.
Now that I have a runway and a big enough field, I've been looking at getting all kinds of different planes. Im looking at getting an edf in the future, and maybe a 3d plane after the Alpha 40 and thats just the start of it all.

EDF's are a whole different experience. I'm totally addicted to those. Brings back memories from when I was a kid and we had stick and paper jets that we tried to fly with Jetx rocket motors. What I would have given for an EDF back then.

I've been looking at this for my first edf- www.hobby-lobby.com/stinger_64_edf_jet_1036467_prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=3864769 . The price is right and I like the looks of it. I've also been looking at this for my first nitro plane- www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCNSW&P=ML . It just came out though so there isn't any videos or reviews of it. Its the same price as the Alpha, and right now Tower is offering $50 off $400 or more. Right now my order is about at $450 with everything I need. About that sugar mama... I guess being a kid fresh out of high school with a full time job and hardly any bills is the closest I've gotten. I'm looking for one though!!

I like that plane. 5ft wing span, and a trike too! Should be a lot of fun! $340 with the engine... good deal. If you can get it on the easy pay plan... even better. Now just remember that the little 9cc gas engine above will drop right in there when you're ready

I don't have that jet, but it's a Freewing plane and I've had a bunch of their EDF's. I've seen the Stinger mod with 150mph on 4S. Stock speed is probably 65mph. A good place to start. A firm hand launch is required and you need to keep the speed up while flying. 80% or so. BH has them cheaper $69.
The Tower plane looks very Alpha like. In other words: a good trainer.

Well I spent all last night researching the Avistar Elite of what little info there is about the plane. I haven't found anyone that has one, people say that its looks like a cross between the Avistar and the Nexstar. From what I've read people say that the landing gear is based off the Nexstar which isn't a good design, people also say that the Avistar is one of the best trainers out there.
I see that Horizon has the Alpha 40 back instock again.
Both planes are the same price but the Avistar would be cheaper with the $50 coupon. But the Alpha 40 comes with Spektrum so no need to buy a Spektrum receiver, and has been a proven bird. I don't feel like being a guinea pig, although the Avistar comes with a proven OS engine, and futaba servos. Hmm..

Well after thinking too hard about it, I bought the Alpha 40 tonight, along with $100 in field equipment. I should be up and flying by the end of the week. ;D Thanks guys for all your help on making the decision to go nitro. It should be interesting...
