I'm now considering the largest coaxial helicopter I can find - maybe the ESky Big Lama, unless someone knows of something bigger.
Where is the best place to buy? Are there any good local stores with decent stock? If not, who's good to deal with online?

big lama parts are hard to locate - the body is 1 piece is the only downfall that i know of - they say it handles outdoors in under 5 mph wind - i have a blazing star and i like the size and parts avaibilty - you will find what you want - parts avaibilty is a must - search the net for rc helicopters - also do you want to buy from a overseas wharehouse - fly safe - ;D =VIC

Hi Vic. I've found three or four choppers about that size - 17.5 to 18 rotor blades... the Blazing Star, the Big Lama, and a Walkera or two.
Who is the best as to parts availability, et cetera? Who do you get your parts from?

just about anywhere i can find them in the us - check the phone numbers - if need to call first - to see if they are realy in the building in the us - that way if something would have to go back it would not cost so much to ship back - you can use the search mode for rc helicopter parts ;D = VIC

The E-Sky BIG Lama is a relatively new co-axial large heli. Apaparently, the item was hot because it was a large class co-axial and used the newer 2.4 Ghz technolog versus the legacy Exceed Blazing Star which uses the 72Mhz FM Technology. According to www.xheli.com, new supplys are supposed to come in March. The reason I mention xheli.com is because they are a large supplier in the U.S. I have also been looking for the large E-Sky LAMA. Most of everyone is sold out. One supplier has the BIG LAMA. RTF - i see a few pitfalls with the BIG LAMA - 1 piece body - heavy at 410 grams - 460 blades - can use 450 only .4 inch shorter - very canidate for brushless setup - how about the walkera 53#8 - just my opinion ;D = VIC

I talked to Mike at USHobbysupply he got some in and they where gone before he could get one for himself I think it will be a good canidate for brushless It has the 11.1 battery and the brushless setup will reduce the weight by about 20 grams if done right. Mike said the carbon brush motors are not lasting very long either probably due to the weight. But there is a lot of potential the radio is good all though all I have seen is 72mhz but it would not be hard to slip in a spectrum receiver, and you could probably upgrade the swash plate and blade holders to aluminum using the Walkera 53#1 parts if your creative. If you want "BIG" try the walkera Chinook. That is like two lamas or blazing stars stuck together. Super stable and flys like scale...Which means it's not super fast in maneuvering, but a lot of fun and great outside due to weight, size and power. That is, when my wife "lets" me fly hers.
Happy landings
