Got some more stuff today. New skids. Not a whole lot wider but softer.I can tell a difference when spooling it up.It sits more still until it has the headspeed to lift off. Got the new gears for the torque tube drive. All stock and no hurry to get the belt drive off until I'm a better low level flyer. Finally, got the Scorpion 1400kv motor and all I can say is "OH-MY-GOD!!!!". I didn't get the 14T with it like I thought so I need to order one but it still just RIPS!!!Even with the 12T. I can hear the stress on the blades.I think I see some Curtis Youngbloods on the way ;D You can see the blades flex going positive to negative. Climb rate is unbelievable and flip rate is a blurr. At first I thought the motor wasn't that large looking and then I noticed it....it's an outrunner so it is all motor.Jeez. It feels a little hotter than the Align but it should since the Align is an inrunner. The battery also is a little hot.Going to need to go to 30C. Anyone considering Scorpion motors,Go for it! I love this thing. It is pretty effecient too.Flight time stayed about the same with more than double the power. WOW!!! I had to solder new bullet connectors on my ESC for the motor. Also, when I spooled up the first time the motor ran backwards so I had to reverse two wires. With bullets this takes two seconds. The motor came in a metal box with great foam innards.Good thing too.The USPS managed to put a big dent in the box with no damage to anything inside.

The outrunner should be lighter and run cooler as well. Nice build. Ray

Thanks Ray.Didn't see your post.We must have been writing together.
The outrunner feels warmer but I think it's because there is no housing. It's not hot by any definition of the word. The battery is pretty warm though. David and I are exchanging emails as we speak about new packs.Probably 35C.
New blades are going to be a must as well.It looks and sounds like it is tearing the blades off going from wide open positive to negative.
You should hear THAT ;D

What if you dropped a tooth or two on the pinon it would reduce headspeed only about 10 to 20% and the motor would not be working as hard and may drop the temp. Just a thought it would still let the motor come up to RPM fast... Ray

I understand the Scorpions need oiling regularly, Ernie. Wonder why those and not others?

I hadn't heard that Sol.I'll certainly look into though.
Ray,funny you mention dropping a tooth or two. I just came back in after a test flight.I added a tooth.lol.
The motor isn't hot but the battery went faster and got a little warmer.

When I was building motors I ran across a very smart guy on rcuniverse he said to keep the motors as cool as possible heat is just a sign of inefficiency plus the glue used to install the magnets would release over time. Ray

Just ordered new battery pack. David listed two choices for me. He's taking the listing down at midnight. Anyone need a good 6S pack? www.helisreadytofly.com/specials.phpOr you could buy mine pretty cheap.2200mah 25C

Ray The motor is still not hot really.Just warmer than my hand to the touch. The battery is hot though. Not very hot but it is the first time it has even warmed up.The 35C should cure that.If it performs well,I'll get a second.Maybe with more mAh capacity.
