I put this question in my "Newbie" thread but no one is biting and giving me advice. Soooooooooo I will ask again, here. I have a conflict going on as a greenie and wanna know from you more experienced guys what your opinion is on these radios. Which features on a radio - as a new guy - should I look for to grow with my experience level. Which one's best .............. for a while? I don't want to go cheap. I want good stuff with good rep. Futaba has been around a long time. I don't know much about the SPEKTRUM radios. Although if they are related I have heard of the JR spectrum radio - if that's the same one? I need advice. I'm chompin at the bit to get a radio to install in my 450 project heli. Help! www.helidirect.com/spektrum-dx7-7ch-heli-war7000-4ds821-radio-mode-p-2363.hdxwww.helidirect.com/futaba-heli-r607fs-24g-4s3001-p-4359.hdx

Hey Prlsr,
First, don't pay that price for either one. There are a lot better deals out there ;D
I own a Futaba 6EX 6 channel and love it. It is easy to program and does all I ask it to do. I wouldn't hesitate to get another Futaba. The only drawback I have seen is that the RX tends to be about $20 more than the Speckrum.
The Spektrum is good also. I really don't think you can go wrong with either. However, you can definately get a better price.

What do you mean by "no one"? What am I, chopped liver? I also indicated which seller would be the best value in your list in the other thread, but you have posted links to one of the highest prices I've seen. If you want to spend $300+ on a radio, that's your business, but I see I'm just wasting my time. Sheesh

I'm just playing.Don't you Futaba guys gang up on me.lol... I use a Spektrum DX7 and can't say enough good about it It stores twenty models in it's memory.I even have a model set up on it for my Phoenix sim. It is fast, easy to understand and program and it flies well. Spektrum is a JR sister company.

I'm like a kid with a full bladder and their ain't nowhere to pee. I want to get my radio so's I can continue on my 450 project. And believe me, I don't WANT to spend any more $$$$ then I have to spend. If YOU or anyone else here at this site can aid me in that endeavor, aka saving it and stretching it farther, kewl. I'm lovin it. U ain't "wastin yer time"! Be nice. I'll go back and check the links you left and see which it is yer referring to. I am shopping right now.

To the others who have answered this far- I like the new 2.4G technology. A LOT! But, I have actually debated whether a really good 72mhz system /w/ a few more channels (say 8-10) might be nicer 4 now. I do like what I saw /w/ SPEKTRUM's DX series, but those damn video's I saw of them getting "lockout" and some birds falling down - it made me step back a minute and take pause. Sorry if that makes me sound like a dumb-a$$. I am NOT discounting firsthand knowledge of ownership experiences. Believe me. That's what I need to hear - is all that experience. But, the electronic part of this "lockout" issue makes it random. As in it don't matter what YOUR experience is - these "glitches" of "lockout" seem to be occurring to some /w/ BOTH models of radios. That's worriesome to a "logical type" like me. Sorry if some of you feel you're beating a dead horse and I'm somehow as dense as particle board.

You'll see alot more 72's falling from the sky than 2.4's. Actually,72's are more prone to flyaways than lockouts.

Apologies for my previous post and timing.
As Ernie mentioned, it's much easier to get the info you require by sticking to one thread. I realize there is a certain amount of impatience involved, but your questions will always be answered. Sometimes it takes a while (an eternity for the impatient), but eventually the chatter will flow.
Also keep in mind we're dealing with several time zones, plus some members prefer posting only in the morning.
Let us know what you've decided on the Tx and any deals you may come across. BTW, to answer your other concern, the 7C Futaba has a 10 model memory.

Retractable landing gear?Bomb bay doors?Maybe some windshield wipers?

So it is more of a question of Why Not? Of course, here I sit with a 6 and love it.... About the 72MHZ, for beginning with an HBFP, maybe. For this level of investment....Don't try suicide, nobody's worth it... My 72 for my HB glitches all the time. I have an area around my house, inside and out, about 5 feet wide from the the front yard through the back. Every time I fly through it the glitching starts. Anyway, if you ever join a flying club you will be very restricted about when you can fly.

Mckrackin asked- "Why do you need more than 6 channels? Retractable landing gear?Bomb bay doors?Maybe some windshield wipers" All the years I have flown planes I saw the guys getting 10 or more channels for "gear down", Doors, additional lights run off the RX, etc. Thassssssssss why! Ain't BIGGER better? And I'd actually like an FM stereo in the dash to blast whilst pretending I'm in the movie "Apocalypse NOW"!

BTcat- I hear ya. I used to belong to a club and then "fly time" became less and less frequent. Not to mention that the field was 20 miles away from my home base and that got old, too. Especially when the fuel prices began climbing. I was in AMA for years - and "official" at one point. I will consider rejoining once the "HELI" piloting skill develops a bit more. For now the park around the corner, or my street is more convienient at the moment.
