Hi guys, I'm trying to build a EXI 450. First one. can someone explain about the servo choices and why do I need a different one for the tail. I know you get what you pay for but I don't know what to look for besides size to fit. Thanks

Thanks Sol. I did see that thread, I was looking for specs. (what's the optimum?) All I see metal gears are preferred but what about all the other specs? Thanks

Hey TMack, For the tail servo you need to get something fast. I use a digital servo on the tail only. Thats the most critical. I dont know that the metal gears are all that important. A cheaper Karbonite gear servo like the HS65 works well for the cyclic servos and replacement gears are available at a reasonable price. www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/3479

Not sure what other "specs" you're looking for. If it's size and speed, the respective websites will provide that info.
And "optimum"? No clear answer on that one. There are many to choose from that all will work well in the EXI. From $20 to $200. I suppose it's like any other component...pick the best that you can afford.
Most try to use a rudder servo with less than a tenth of a second response time. Since the signal is processed by the gyro and then the servo, a quick servo will help with tail precision.

In my opinion Align servos are superiour to most for the price. Align DS410's would be perfect in size, speed and stall torque for the EXI 450. In many cases they are even cheaper than their competitors. 410's are only $28 each. For the tail I recommend an Align as well.A DS520 would be great but a DS420 would perform well in the most extreme conditions. The DS520 is $50 and the DS420 is $28. The DS520 can turn 60 degrees in 0.07 second and the DS420 does it in 0.08 second. These speeds are rated at 4.8 volts which is what you will most likely be running. The servos can be used at up 6 volts though and would be a bit faster but may tend to get a little hot after a couple batteries. Align servos are rebuildable. The new gears are around $6. That's the best advice I have for you ;D This is an excellent place to buy your parts.Best customer service I have ever dealt with whether it be online or in person www.helisreadytofly.com/index.php?cPath=2_31&osCsid=f333f558778e5aedd23a980b6b4c423d

You've got to like a guy that researches the info that's already on the forum. Saves us a lot of typing answering questions over and over again. ;D
Happy landings

I am in the process of setting up an HK-450 and I am using Corona DS-928BB Digital servos on the head and a Hyperion HP-DS12-GCP Gyro Servo on the tail. I haven't flown the heli yet (still working on power system) but I have used the Corona's on a couple of different Foamy Park Jets and they work really nicely. Incredibly smooth and very reliable. As for the Hyperion's they came highly recommended by a few local pilots so that is what I bought. By the way, if you aren't in a hurry I got the Corona's on the cheap form here . Great price but takes a while to ship. They fit perfectly in my HK-450 so I would assume they will fit in the EXI as well Rob...
