If you don't have a heli carry case, do you have the original box it came in?
I brought one back from Illinois last Dec in it's box. Checked it as luggage and they took good care of it. They even put "fragile" type stickers all over it. I did have to pay extra as it was an international flight and was only allowed one free piece of checked baggage.
Not sure if they would allow it as carry-on. They have some rather odd rules about that.

On things that I dont want broken on a plane or lost, I ship it to myself. Might be cheaper then checking in luggage now a days.

I carried on an MCX in it's original box on a flight to Norway. No problems at all. It's box was small enough to fit in the overhead.
Xheli had the 450 cases for $35. I don't know if they still do. Those are very nice. These are probably too big to carry on, but could be checked, or shipped like Mighty mentions. Kent

Mighty has the best alternative solution to carry on or baggage IMO.
I ship to myself and save a bunch of time, money and potential hassle (who knows what the dimwit at the counter, security or customs is going to say about that odd and potentially dangerous pkg you want to put on THEIR plane).
Happy landing
