Got my new alpha 400 after the old one might have burt out. I did notice something different about this one compared to the last. When I spin it with my hand its not as hard to spin. My last one was hard to spin. I hope this one works. Will try to get it installed later tonight.

Hi Mighty, if you short any of the leads together, it will get hard to spin!
I have two Alpha's and I also thought that one of them had more 'compression' but it turned out that it's leads were touching. They are the same.
That's actually how you can tell how many poles are in the motor. Just short any two leads together and turn it by hand. After a few turns, it will stop at all the pole boundaries.
Best, Kent

I knew brushless motors did that and have never had one before so I thought the hard compression was normal, until I got the new one.

Ok did a test flight today. Everything works fine. Had a issue with the battery wires rubbing the motor, but fixed that. Flew an entire battery landing and checking it about 4 times. The motor was just warm, the esc was also just warm. The only time the motor got hot was when the battery wires were in the way. It almost cut through the wires. DOH!!!!!

Great news mighty...The alpha is a good motor (Mine going on 8 months of operation and 120 flights) and I had a similar issue with the motor rubbing the wires. "The devil is in the details" as they used to say. ;D
Happy landings

Here are a couple of pics. I relocated my ESC, and added a wire separator, kinda like spark plug wires. I did it just to keep my mind at ease. I know the wires touching doesnt make a difference.

I never under estimate the value of peace of mind. If your nervous about something it can be distracting which isn't a good thing when you're flyin'. ;D
Happy landings

Nice idea using a block of spacers to separate the wires. Looks very nice for peice of mind.

Hey Mighty, that's AWESOME!! Maybe you should think about selling something like that!
The motor connectors sometimes don't come with any heatshrink and others come with junk heatshrink that wears easily. Keeping these leads separated would save many an ESC in case of shorting leads!!
Good job! Kent

Oh, and I just noticed that you haven't been through the 'screaming meemee' yet with your Alpha!!
You will, if you are turning it up at all!
(hint: The sticker will start to come loose and make a terrible noise until it flies off!!)
