Well, I felt it was time. I've been doing FFF around my yard and at the field, I was feeling confident enough in that, so I decided to pull out some of my first 3D.
First attempt here is with the Blade 400. You can't really see the 3D, because the video quality of my camera is crap and I had it way out there. You can hear my buddy reacting to it though. I did forward flip and a roll, then I lost orientation and BOOM! That thing hit the ground hard. Couldn't tell if I was right side up or upside down for a bit there. Bent the main shaft almost 90 degrees.
Here is the walk up on the damaged heli:
So, after crashing the Blade 400 and going upside down for the first time, I decided to try it with the Blade CP+. Here is the results:
So, I tried the 3D and lost a lot of altitude, but there was no real damage, so I tried again. My buddies finger is in the way for a while in this next one, he didn't really know where the lens was at. I did one successful flip and recovered, but I wasn't successful on the second one:
So, I was surprised to see how slow these things were at inverting. I've been doing 3D just fine on the sims, but these helis took a lot to go upside down. I had the pitch set in the middle and I followed the manuals recommendations on pitch and throttle curves. I'm thinking this is just a result of using stock components on both the these helis. The E-flight stock servos are slow and the gyro on the 400 leaves much to be desired. I suppose I'll have to save 3D for the Trex when it is ready.
I'm sure I'll eventually get these helis upgraded, but not for a while now. It's going to cost $350 to get the servos, gyro and esc that I want for the Blade 400 and that's more than I spent on the heli to start with, so I'll keep it skids down and just do FFF until then.
As for the CP, I'm sure I'll try to flip that one some more. All I had to do after these flights was put new blades on and CL the skids. Once I can do 3D on a small heli with no gyro and flight stabilizer, it should make doing 3D on the Trex 600 with a helicommand a piece of cake.
So, now that I've done 3D (sorta), what am I going to do...
That's right, more 3D (and fix my shi$).

I saw that Randy, good job! Something tells me that the better servo and gyro set up makes a lot of difference as well. Figured, if I learn on the hard small helis, then it will be much easier when I do it with the larger ones.

Nice videos!!
I also smacked my Exi 450 on the first flip attempt. Like you said, these are different from the simulator! I found though that with the Scorpion motor now, the 450 flips MUCH easier. The Alpha motor was not nearly as powerful.
I'm still afraid to flip the 500!
I can't wait to hear about your 600!
Best, Kent
