Rating: 5 out of 5Pros: Exceed Volcano 30 Amp programmable ESC. Nice because you can program it with a programming card. Tailor your heli to start up slow, play 16 pre-programmed tunes, etc. Cons: None Typically this can be used for the Walkera 3,500KV/RPM brushless motor or E-Sky 3,100kv/RPM brushless motor. Tip: To help the ESC breath better, use an X-acto knife and cut side slits on the ESC's plastic yellow shrink wrap.

I've used the volcano 30 Amp ESC in a variety of heli and aircraft applications and it has performed flawlessly. No overheating or other issues.
Although you can use a programming card I found the manual procedure to be very easy.
Happy landings

There is one con.
The Volcano ESC uses a linear BEC. This is very inefficient, but if your electronics don't draw too much power, then this works well enough.
Linear BEC example: Input: 12.5v Output: 5.5v Current: 2 amps
Output power: 11 watts Input power: 25 watts
Power burned up as heat: 14 watts
This is not too bad and will not result in a lot of heat, but it is wasted power. Kent

Considering it's losing so much power through heat it doesn't seem to run that hot.
Happy landings

Don't recall and don't really care. Nuttcaze probaly didn't set it up properly when he got it from xheli.com for free.
This is a nice programmable Linear ESC that works well for a 350-400 size electric heli such as the Walkera #36/ Exceed Raptor G2.

This is a nice programmable Linear ESC that works well for a 350-400 size electric heli such as the Walkera #36/ Exceed Raptor G2. Agreed. But the ESC is a 3 phase motor controller and the BEC is what is linear with the Volcano. By the way, this and most of the Chinese ESC's use a processor that is an 8051 based derivative made by Silicon Labs right in my own back yard, here in Austin. The base processor technology is really old (20+ years old!!!), but the addition of all of the PWM channels is perfect for 3 phase motor control. Silicon Labs has updated the core processor, but it's still carp, easily cloned by all of the wannabee Chinese ESC wannabee suppliers. This part SUX! Well, at least Silicon Labs benefits from it, and not some unknown Chinese thing. Best, Kent
