I was flying around, trying to get a video of the way my 500 is setup now, for a build thread. Well, it's no longer setup that way! Bummer!
As I was finishing the flight, I set down the heli and the landing gear just fell in two! I guess it was already broken and just that landing made it separate! Anyway, it caused the heli to lay over on it's side and unfortunately, it tore up all the blades. The throttle hold was hit quickly, so I think the shafts are all ok. I'm working on it now.
Anyway, that was really weird! I sure didn't expect that!
So, two Exi 500 smacks and neither was due to pilot error! The first one happened when a tail feathering screw backed out. (Dam lack of locktite) Kent

That sucks...... preflight inspection? ;D You would think a preflight would have shown that! I guess I'll start leaning down on the heli with pre/post flight! I usually do a post rather than a pre, so I can sleep better at night... This thing 'looked' ok! Maybe some vibration caused the final separation, or some kind of plastic eating bugs jumped on the skids before I took off? It was actually almost humorous. Almost. My first thought was of the guy on the tricycle on Laugh-In in the 60's! I think some around here are old enough to remember that! Sorry, turns out the helmet cam was on crooked. Yes, you can hear the heli, see it in places, and hear my 'oh carp' at the end... Bummer. Oh, it's back together with Align white landing skid parts, Align CF main blades, Align black CF paddles, Align flybar, and yellow K&B tail blades. K&B tail blades ROCK! Shafts and gears were all good, as amazing as that sounds, but they were already all Align. Kent

I've got plastic and metal eating critters that jump on my aircraft all the time. Just like the Twilight Zone episode with Shatner in the airplane with the gremlin on the wing taking the engine apart. ;D
Arte Johnson had some of the funniest on going character skits on Laugh In. The tricycle tipping over was always hilarious no matter how many times you saw it. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Happy landings
