The Hobbywing Platinum is an ESC that I first tried with my Exi 450, when I upgraded the motor from an Alpha 400 to a Scorpion HKII-2216-8. These motors have very similar KV ratings, but the Scorpion is far more powerful and more efficient. The original ESC was an Exceed Volcano 30 amp with a linear BEC. This ESC always ran fairly hot, so I didn't want to trust it.
It turns out that I didn't even need the Hobbywing ESC, because of the efficiency of the Scorpion, but I'm glad I bought this ESC, as it runs very cool.
The Hobbywing Platinum line has switching BEC's, which is a very good thing. This technology costs more, but the results are far less heat generated by the BEC, and more efficient battery usage.
Since the 40a Hobbywing Platinum worked so well in my Exi 450, I am now running an 80a version in my Exi 500 and a 60a version in my Ultimate Biplane.

My ratings of the Hobbywing Platinum ESC:
Cost: 4 out of 5 stars
(There are far cheaper ESC's available, but not necessarily with the feature set of these ESC's)
Reliability: 4 out of 5 stars
(No Brushless ESC is perfect. I'm sure there are ways to blow these up, too.)
Heat generation relative to power used: 5 out of 5 stars
(These are very cool running relative to the power you use out of them)
Super soft startup setting: 5 out of 5 stars!
(This is a feature that doesn't work well with many ESC's for helicopters!)
Overall impressions: 5 out of 5 stars!
Score: 4.6 out of 5.
Would I recommend these to anyone else? Absolutely.
Why? I have had TWO Align 60a ESC's die on me. I have had one 40a E-flite ESC die on me (these are WAY overpriced POS). While none of the Exceed Volcano's died on me, they ran too hot for my liking.
Notes: I don't know if Hobbywing is the manufacturer or not. I might assume not, as there are other OEM's of this exact ESC. There is a Turnigy version, available from Hobbycity, and I'm sure there are others.

I don't have this one.
Or this one.
These are available from Helidirect and other online retailers.
