This motor has AWESOME power. With my Exi 450, I get 3,000 rpm headspeed with a 12t pinion! Virtually zero bog! With the 13t pinion, I was hitting 3,400 rpm on a fresh pack which was too much for me. My rating: 5 out of 5 without a doubt Would I recommend this motor to anyone else? Absolutely! Why? It's a powerful beasty. It loves to make the heli go FAST. But it also responds fairly well to lower power levels from the ESC. You have to back down quite a bit on the power levels before the motor slows much!

Kent,,,I put that motor in my Flasher 450 and I agree with everything you said. I see you are using the Hobbywing ESC. I'm using the Scorpion 45 amp Commander V2. I have no idea why,,,but twice now when I spooled up the motor rotation was reversed. The ESC comes with a IR programmer so it takes just a second to change the rotation,,,,,,,,have any idea why it would do that?

Wow! I've never heard of that happening on any brushless motor!
The only thing that I can think of is: 1. The ESC processor is confused and firing up the motor wrong. 2. Maybe the timing is somehow messed up, allowing the motor to spin the wrong way?
Yes, I am running a Hobbywing Platinum 40 amp at 15 degrees on the timing. I think this is 'mid timing' on some ESC's. The motor didn't like lower timing (ran hot with less power). I haven't tried any higher timing.
It will be interesting to hear about what you find out! Kent

I think Kent maybe be right on the timing.
Happy landings

I have never seen an ESC that has a programmable direction! All that I have seen use a fixed direction. You just swap any two motor wires if it runs backwards. The processor must be 'forgetting' the direction setting. I would send the ESC back for replacement. These processors use a built in non-volatile memory. If that memory or the processor or any number of things are bad or on the edge, the processor can reset everything back to factory defaults, or worse, it could set things to randomness. I know, as I design embedded processing systems for a living! Best, Kent

I was thinking the same thing Kent,,,it must be the ESC. If it were a timing glitch on the motor,,,I would be able to just cycle power to change it. Once it reverses,,,I have to change the motor wires or change the ESC. I sent a flare up to Lucien at innov8tive,,,see what he says.
Hey,,,do you know if this motor is rated for a 4-cell system? I was thinking about putting it into my F-16 70 mm EDF jet!

Yes, there are a number of folks running 4s with this motor in their helis. Some are running 11t pinions on the 450's and getting 3400+ headspeeds!
It sure sounds like it should work for your EDF jet! Kent

I got an answer from Lucien,,he said that motor works well in EDFs on 4 cells. I was going to do it,,but the prop/fan adapter was the wrong size. I'll order the adapter and do it on the next one,,,I'm getting good at wrecking them,,LOL. Then just buy the airframe and rebuild! ;D I have to say,,,,I took Moat-Gator for a spin tonight,,,it was a little windy and I didn't feel like fighting the wind with 3D, so I put the nose down and cranked it,,,,,WOW. At about 15 feet you have to put the nose down a full 45 degrees to keep it from climbing and OMG,,,,I really think it is faster than my jets,,,,,I'm sure of it! I need to buy a radar-gun now. I HAVE TO KNOW how fast this heli is,,,,,it blew my mind!!

Elk, that's what these things do in FFF!!!! They are REALLY FAST!!! The first time I nosed forward the T450 and GUNNED it, that blew my mind!!!!!!!!!!
On paper, my 450 does almost 70mph. The 500 is a little less, but only with lower headspeeds!
These dam heli's are FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kent
