OK,,,,I tried,,,but failed ,,this time!! The good; I took Moat-Gator fishing and flew him off the water! ;D The bad; didn't catch any fish! The UGLY; just watch! Boy,,,,did I screw the pooch on that one. I was using fly-line so I could better see where the lure was going. My intent was to fly along dragging a top-water lure so I could see any strikes. The pike in this lake are agressive on top-water and they are on the smallish side,,,,,a lot of 20" to 24" that weigh about 2 lbs,,,,,,there are a few 10-15 pounders but not many. Anywho,,,,,,as the heli took off, the line got tangled under a pole that was hanging over the side. Everything happened so quick. I should have hollered at my wife for help but she was video'ing it and I 'thought' I had it under control. I tripped in the boat while trying to get the lure untangled and trying to fly the heli at the same time so I just chopped the throttle. I knew I was just above the water so I figured it would land ok. It did,,,,but kicked up a huge spray. I am soooo glad that I changed my pitch curve for 0 blade angle at 0 throttle. Negative pitch would have dunked it bigtime. This was one those KeyStone Cops routines,,,,,,WHEWWW! I tried guys!! The heli never sparked or lost power,,,it is drying out right now but I think it is ok. One of the floats has a slow leak so I have to find that before the next attempt. Next time,,,I'll do a shore launch and have one other person there for help while my wife videos!! Oh,,,,we dropped the heli off at the truck then went fishing,,,,we caught 3 pike in the stretch that was going to troll with the heli! Next time!!

You are a brave man Randy. That was certainly a close one. Glad to hear that nothing was damaged. You would have had it if that dang line didn't get snagged.
You'll get it next time, just gotta have someone hold the lure for you as you take off.

I had one casualty,,,,the ESC was dead! I had a new spare,,,from when I burnt that one up on the first hover attempt. So,,,,that was a $100 screw up! Could have been much worse. Anyone know if there might be a fuse or something simple on the ESC that might be able to be fixed? I think Kent likes digging into this electronic stuff,,,,wanna tear this one apart Kent? LOL. There is no obvious damage,,,nothing singed or burnt. Anywho,,,,I ain't quitting,,,I'll get my act together and try again. Gotta find the slow air leak in the float first!

You could say something like; "Wow,,,Randy,,,,nice try,,,,,,don't give up,,,you'll get it next time! Thanks for sharing!!" OR,,, "You idiot!! What the he!! made you think you could do something so incredibly stupid? You deserved to blow up the ESC!! Hope it sinks to the bottom next time!!" Take your pick Ernie,,,,I'm still debating it!! ;D

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is just an awesome story!
You'll get it!!! Those floats sure seem to work well. =========== You might want to let the ESC dry out fully. If it's still dead, then most likely the processor is toast, but it could be some other low voltage parts in there. These usually have a small BEC for the onboard electronics, but sometimes if they have a real BEC, that is shared. When wet, these can spike, if they are a switching type and take out themselves and/or other electronics.
I would be happy to take a look at it, Elk. The chances of repair might be somewhat small, though, unless the processor is still good.
Keep it up! You are FUN to read about!! Kent

Cahones of titanium. ;D
Great for a first attempt. Like you say it could have been much, much worse. And, maybe it will the next time. But as they say, "Nothing ventured nothing gained." ;D
Can't wait for the vid of your first hook up.
Happy landings

I completely missed this one - awesome stuff, you can see the floats just about totally submerge! I am glad you are not fishing the heli out of the lake ;D

I am glad you are not fishing the heli out of the lake ;D I'm glad you resurrected this thread, flyinghigh. I missed this one. I read the thread before I watched the video. I figured it would be worse. Really it was a pretty good save, Elk. I think I'll go fishing with my Honeybee. Done in the gulf, its just the right size ...................for BAIT ;D
