Take a look;
That was with full elevator and aileron inputs,,,,,should not the 500 be a LOT quicker?
I have 8 degrees throw on the cyclic,,,ail and elev. Pitch curves are set at +/- 12 degrees,,,I even thru in 20% negative expo,,,,,,,any other way I can speed this thing up? It is slower than the roll/flip rate of my 600. I'm using Futuba S9257 servos,,they are very fast,,,I don't get it. Or,,,am I just expecting too much? What do you guys think?
Anyone?

That doesn't look slow really.
You could use some better timing on pitch transistions. Full stick in whatever direction you want. At 45* go negative,at 90* pos,at 135* neg,180*pos,225*neg,270*pos,315*neg and finally level out.
This is all between 40% throttle and 60%.
Should get a very fast roll or flip without leaving the spot it starts in.I only get it perfect about a third of the time but I can ocassionaly get that perfect fast and completely stationary roll.
Otherwise, that heli looks really good.I mean REALLY good.

Mmmmmm,,,,Oh God.....Don't get all washed out. Crashes are a painful and expensive part of fast 3D.
You're lucky. You are down from a crash trying something fun and exciting. I'm down from mixing high power drives with junk ass finals.
The final drive should be as best as you can find.
I feel your pain because you crash the best parts out there while I crash because I tried to save 3 bux....No More!!!!
Elk,,,,we are going to go through the same crap from here on out.
Me and you Bro....
Let's damage the status quo____ ;D

"damage the status quo"? LOL I'm with ya!! ;D
I'm going to have to take a break soon,,,,,damned hunting season is going to cramp my style big time. I'm going to take the 500 along on my hunting trip to Montana. Should be fun to dive it down thru some coulies,,,flying 3 or 400 feet below you should make for some fun. I'll be gone about 6 weeks.
I'm seriously thinking about a T-Tex 700 Nitro with flybarless for a winter project.

Hey Elk, nice flying!!! That looks about as fast as my 500 with flips. I mentioned somewhere else also running 12 pitch and 8 cyclic, but that's wrong. I'm actually running 13 pitch and 9 cyclic. But mine is 'about' the same speed as yours, especially the roll flips.
Mine flips faster forward than backward for some reason.
Also, mine flips slower with the big ole 3300 battery in it. Rolls feel about the same. Forward and back are faster with the smaller 2650 battery.
I'm running right at 3k rpm headspeed now in idle 2 when I do flips.
I still don't do a lot of flips. They make me really nervous. I usually do a few when it's been a good flying day. I have crashed more doing those than anything else. I just get lost sometimes when the heli gets all out of shape. Ugh.
I mostly do FFF with loops and rolls, and I'm really working on nose in and starting to work on backwards circuits a little, too. It's amazing how much of the simple stuff I can't do yet. Kent

Kent, I'm going to play around with the pitch and ail throws some. I do most my flying in Stnt 1 set at 90% throttle,,it gets 2840 rpms there. Stnt 2 is 100% and gets 3080 rpms,,,,but it seems to 'float' around a little more,,,I know I could fix that with a little expo but you can't adjust expo for each flight modes. Stnt 1 just feels better. I have a Turnigy 2605 30C,,,a Hyperion 3300 35C and two Thunder Power 2700 30C batteries. I can't tell the difference between the 2650 and the 2700s,,,but the 3300 gives me a full two minutes more flight time I get 8 1/2 minutes with it compared to 6 1/2 with the others. The 3300 does slow the flip rate, but not the roll rate. And I can say,,,this 1400 Scorpion doesn't bogg a bit,,even with the 3300. The other day I really blew a forward flip and got disorientated when I inadvertently swung the tail in the middle,,,,the heli was, at one point, inverted with full collective and diving extremely fast,,,,I caught it just in time. I rolled it without changing collective so it went from an inverted dive to a full climbout instantly,,,I didn't notice any change in the motor sound,,,,,,,,then again,,I doubt I could have heard anything over the load 'smack' of my a-hole slamming shut!!! That was a pucker-factor of 11,,,LOL ;D I may try the Align servos on this rebuild,,,just for comparison.

Cool stuff, Elk!
Yeah, my Scorpion 1600 doesn't bog either. It's only the idiot pilot that sometimes bogs! I do wish we lived closer so we could compare notes on the Scorpions.
As soon as it cools off to less than 100 degrees every day, then I'll get out more and take more videos. I don't do mornings and it's been 100 well into the darkness. That REALLY sux. I have puffed too many batteries in this heat. I went into a convenience store on the way home from work tonight where the workers were really griping about the heat. They said it was 90 in the store. It felt cool to me! I didn't break the least bit of a sweat. But it was 105 outside at 6:30. Ugh. ITS BEEN THE HOTTEST SUMMER IN RECORDED HISTORY HERE! I can't stand it. ==== I actually really like the DS510's on the cyclic. There is no obvious delay that I can feel and they don't drift at all. There is no slop either, after lots of flights. The gear kits are cheap, too.
I still wonder a little about the super fast but weak servos on the cyclic. I would love to have sets of each to feel the difference. It sounds like you will be doing that, maybe? That would be awesome to hear what you think is the difference.
It sounds like we both feel the same difference with small vs. big batteries! Flips are slower (mushier), while rolls are still fine.
If I just do some FFF with the 3300, I have pushed it to 10 minutes before!! That took almost 90% of the cap to recharge, though. I limit the big ole batteries to 8.5 minutes, like you! But my ability to fly for that long is limited. My brain can't concentrate that hard for that long! I usually land before the beeper and there is usually a good minute or two left. So, I find myself flying the smaller 2650's more often. They do make the heli feel a little more brisk.
Oh, and from YOU, I bought some Radix blades! They rock for the 500! These were almost perfectly balanced (0.04 grams) and they are really quiet compared to the Align CF's. I LIKE IT!! I couldn't tell a real difference in the air from the Align carbons that have the stripe on them. But they are more quiet until you do something like a loop, roll or flip. Then they seem to talk to you about the same as the Aligns.
Best, Kent

My recent crash took out my 430 Radix blades . I didn't notice a huge difference either. The Radix are only .5mm wider than the Align CFs. Now,,,on the 600, the Radix blades are heavier and 5mm wider,,,,they make a HUGE difference there. I just put the Align 520s on the cyclic, I'll let you know. The problem with the Futubas is they are weak,,,,I think they don't have enough torque. And the gears are VERY weak,,,,I forgot to set my timer and I was landing when the battery died,,,,I was only at 80% throttle so I lost headspeed too quick and I had a hard landing. It was like maybe dropping your heli from a foot,,,,,,,ALL THREE of the cyclic servos stripped gears. I had absolutely no damage to anything on my heli but the Futubas were trashed. I bought a metal-gear conversion kit for the Futubas but they were too tight,,,I couldn't get then seated and the servo wouldn't drive them,,,,,,I had to mix and match the metal and plastice gears to get them working. And then they were stiff,,,,I wouldn't be surprized if it wasn't actually the servos that caused my crashed,,,,,two of the servos were locked up,,,no way of telling if that happened from the crash or before it. I got my heli all together,,,,but it's raining today and tomorrow morning,,,,,looks like tomorrow evening I'll get it in the air and report back about the servos. Kent,,,,we've had one week of 85 degree weather so far this summer,,,,,,been mostly 70 to 75 for highs,,,,,great heli weather!!! ;D
