Well, I was flying the 450 around down by the lake just before the rain started and I lost orientation. Too fast and far away. The 450 went into a tree. It didn't 'hit' it, but just proceeded to bounce around in it and it started removing small limbs. All I could see were leaves flying!!! It finally made it's way out of the tree and hit the ground. My throttle hold reflexes are TOO SLOW!! The damage wasn't bad at all. Main shaft, feathering shaft, main blades (my set of Radix ), and the vertical tail fin. That's it. It's really odd to me how on some crashes things break that you wouldn't think should, and other things are fine that should be broken!!! Kent

Wow, that's unbelievable. You guys have trees in Texas? ;D ;D ;D Before this gets out of hand, define "tree". And, back on topic, I have been surprised by the damage of various crashes. I suspect it has as much to do with angle as anything. My last one looked pretty vanilla, but it slapped the ground at a pretty weird angle. More servo damage than I have ever had. The crash that led to my meltdown, if I remember right, hit on the right front canopy side and bent the holy crap out of everything except the boom.

Yeah, BT, that's exactly what I was talking about.
This crash 'should' have had a devistating effect, but it didn't! It was a 'thing' in a tree about 50 feet up. Flying leaves and small limbs and obviously the blades hit something big in there. The Radix blades were trashed as were all the shafts in the head.
But, the tail shaft, blades, and boom were FINE, as was the canopy!! Barely a scratch! But the vertical carbon tail fin was broken in two! Weird!
I think the tree did it on purpose, just to mess with me. Kent

Please, don't ask me how it happened (dumb thumbs ;D ) but I actually landed in the top of a 300 yr. old live oak the other day. Fortunately I had hit the throttle hold and the darn thing settled on the top sitting there 65' high. I'm looking at it and said, "what have I got to lose? There's no way to get the thing down." I gave if full throttle and it actually flew out. I think I used up about 10 yrs. of luck on that one. Absolutely no damage. ;D
Happy landings

What part of, "I think I used up ten years of luck." didn't you guys understand? ;D And, believe me it was all luck. ;D
If I did a repeat attempt with a video on it all it would show is me soiling myself as the heli crashes through the limbs, disintegrating into a million pieces. Or, in other words, just the kind of video we all love. ;D
Anyone want to send me a heli and a video camera? I might give it a try. ;D ;D
Happy landings

Yeah, it would have to be at least a 450, unless it was a supped up 40 or Bee. A stock 40 or Bee wouldn't get high enough to land in the top of that tree. ;D
Happy landings
