I had the most fun with a heli tonight that I have had in a long time. Broke out the old Falcon 40, charged up a couple of lipos for it and took off to the backyard for some light flying. It has been a couple of months since I flew the Falcon and I had forgotten how much fun this heli was and it was like starting over again. No gyro to keep the tail straight and no power to keep even the lightest wind from moving it around. Man this was a real challenge, had both sticks moving all the time just to keep it in a five foot square hover. Also pulled a fergie and took it all the way around the house without a touch down.
What was your first heli and if you still have it take it out for a walk someday.

My first heli was actually a Falcon 40 but I never learned to fly it. Only gave it a half battery chance and moved on to a Walkera #68 which was some of the most fun and addictive times ever.
My first REAL forward flight came with a G2. Lots of G2's.lol....

Don't laugh! My first "heli" was a little 2 channel my wife bought at the mall. Played with that thing all the time while I was recovering from surgery. It was all kinds of fun to torture the dog with.
The first real heli was the HBFP. Still love to fly it, break it, though $1.50 into parts and fly it again. That reminds me. I need to order a couple more batteries.

Great story Dave.
Unfortunately I can't take any first helis for a walk. "Our" first heli was also an airhog I bought for my wife for christmas a few years ago. She loved it and "we" wore it out in a couple of months. ;D
My first heli was a HBFP, and like ernie, I never really learned to fly it. Real success came with the Eagle 50.
The HBFP is hanging in the Den in no condition to fly. The 50 is on permanent "loan" to a friend.
Have you ever seen Nightflyer's vids of roller blading at night with his helis back in the 80's? ;D
Happy landings

Other than the little 2 channel guy I got at the mall and killed within a week, I tried an Eagle 50 for my first heli. As you can imagine, I didn't have a whole lot of luck getting that thing to fly. I soon purchased a syma 3 channel and a 4 channel coaxial Co-Comanche and those things became easy very fast. My first real success came with my blade CP. The guy at the shop trimmed it out perfect for me, so it was a lot easier to learn to hover with. Once I was good with the Blade, everything else just fell in to place. I have a stack of helis that work, which I fly, and another stack that will get work done on them through the winter to come back to life by next spring. Looks like I'll start getting into seasonal fixing and flying. Fly all summer, fix all winter.

First heli was an airhog that my wife bought as a gift (Got hooked). Then it was searching the Internet. xHeli.com was the fist place. Got a 4-Channel Exceed Falcon 40 and then two more. Wasn't great at first and then with the help of the forums, got the 4-Channel Walkera HM 53#1 and Exceed Blazing Star co-axial heli. Started to modify helis and then went to the 4-Channel E-SKY HBFP V1 FP and my first 6-Channel Walkera #36. Started to modify other popular helis. Got a E-SKY BIG Lama and Walkera #22E. Finally, I started to get the 2.4Ghz versions as they seem to operate with less Rf Noise. Got my first 6-channel 2.4 GHz Walkera #22E and then another 2.4Ghz Exceed Eagle 50. Worked down to getting a 2.4Ghz 4-channel E-SKY BIG Lama co-axial and the new 2.4Ghz 4-Channel E-SKY HBFP V2 FP. What's next, maybe a 2.4Ghz 6-Channel Belt. A 2.4Ghz 6-Channel Creata 400 which appears to be a Walkera #36/Exceed Raptor G2 upgrade equivalent or the 2.4GHz 6-channel Blueray Belt CP. Then of course, the Align Trex 450 looks interesting, but IMO, I'm not sure If I want to spend on spare parts and batteries that are so expensive as this heli is big. The LIPO Battery can take forever to charge, Metal gear servos are nice but expensive, etc. PS: I'm glad that everyone on this board in some way have added to my collective and vice versa. We have all come a long way, but the journey should never end. Keep on doing what you all do best - Built by Members for Members.
