So I had a minor crash today at the park. Spun the belt again. Flybar and maingear was the only damage - or so I thought...
Noticed a small crack in the blade by the grip right before I took her up. I thought, what's the worst that can happen, right? Well, when I kicked it into idle up, the blade exploded off the heli!!!! It was kind of cool to watch.
New damage report: -Main blades -Flybar -Main shaft -Boom -misc linkage on the swash -Skids
I just HAD to fly.

Here is a shot of the bent shaft and mangled head section: Bent boom: Shot of the main gear: Amazingly, the spindle shaft seemed ok but I am replacing it anyways. Same with the other blade - you can see it was a small nick on it, but I'm taking no chances: Got everything here in my spare parts but the darn main gear. Oh, and I was able to fix the skid with a little bit of CA glue. The craziest thing about this while crash is that the bird landed on the skids. There was technically no "crash". All the damage happened in the air, which is hard to believe with an Align mainshaft. Weird.

Tough luck Gabe. The blade coming off put a huge off balance load on all the rotating masses. That's why all the damage. Lucky that you have most of the parts.
Happy landings

I'm thinking about leveling out my swash and head the way Finless has suggested on this rebuild. I did it once and I had waaaay too much pitch. Couldn't really figure it out so I put it back the way it was. I think I just need to adjust the right pitch knob way down (or buy another AR6000 receiver so I can plug her into the DX6i).

I can tell you from my experiance that when you set it up w/ the Spektrum Rx and Tx, that it will feel better and fly better. At least that was my experiance. I like a little bit of expo and the stock Tx does not do that. I noticed most of the difference hovering. Plus setting it up is quicker. Look at the new 6110 Rx. (verify it works w/ the 6i). This is nothing new but it's just explained and detailed out differently (using a blueray 450). www.mycoolheli.com/symetricalheadsetup.html

Sweet! I will give that a go when I get the main gear on Wednesday (and maybe a new receiver for the DX6i).

Yes, yes, yes, yes, you will LOVE your 450 once you Spektrumize it! It took literally 5 minutes to setup the head on mine this morning after yesterday's crash. And like Dditch, I like expo in my helis. It does not affect performance, but makes hovering and slow flight SOOO much smoother. Kent

Try positive expo from 10% and up. I am running 25% on my ailerons and elevators on both my 450 and 500. My ES600 I haven't figured out yet, so I'm running 30% right now on it.
Expo is magic! Kent
