An impressive electric helicopter that flys like a typical co-axial but is a single rotor 4-channel heli. Almost everything on the new Walkera CB180D is designed well except for the tail motor which is shaft gear driven.
Pros: 1. Single rotor flies like a coaxial due the 45 degree angl flybar. 2. No more blade striking.
Cons: 1. Underpowered tail motor which fails after 3 dozen full flights 2. Indoor only heli as any wind higher than 5 MPH will take the heli away. 3. Shaft/gear driven tail rotor is weaker than traditional tail motor mounts.
The Tail section can be modified for a brushless direct drive tail system which will make this heli complete.

I agree a 100%. But I would like add to the Pros. 1. You can easily change the control arm ball link location; there are 3 available on the aluminum control arm. 2. And there are two settings on the swashplate for beginner or more advanced pilots. And if you need more you can get longer servos arms. And to me. It’s is more fun to fly then any coax.

How are they in a crash? Is the brushless tail conversion well documented somewhere? I'm hoping to get one or both my boys heli flying this spring and am scouting out an FP.

We have the brushless conversion kit. Its makes the heli totally brushless. A high speed brushless main motor and a brushless tail motor acting as a direct drive (DD) giving superior rudder control. Below is a recent video of the totally brushless 2.4Ghz Walkera CB180D. It requires a new 2.4Ghz Walkera Rx., and you can still use your existing Tx (WK-2401, WK-2042, or WK-2801).

Well, I've got about 80 flights on mine so far. I've also banged it into the grass about a dozen or so. The CB180D/MH300 holds up incredibly well. I've replaced the tail drive motor once (RTF knows of that he speaketh), and the tail rotor itself due to an inverted, yet unplanned landing. (DOH!) Holds up very well. My .02, yes.
