OK,,,I contacted Heim Joint and got his T-Rex 500 mod bolts. I disconnected the tail servo and ran my heli(without main blades) and operated the tail control rod by hand,,,I was totally amazed at just how hard it was to operate the tail,,,there is a LOT of force back there. And to hold it at full deflection was tough. I had no idea just how hard the tail servo had to work.
Then I installed the bolts and ran it again,,,,,WOW,,,it still requires force to move the tail slider,,,but about a third as much,,,but at full deflection it took very little force to hold it there. When I let go,,,the tail slider slowly creeped back to center. The bolts work incredibly.
Next,,the flight test. Now,,,I can say that the actual flight characturistics did not change much. I did notice that the tail does slam to a stop quicker when releasing from a piro. But,,I had to decrease my gyro gain by 8 points,,,,from 69 to 61%, which tells me my the tail servo is more proficient.
The major benefits,,as I see it,, is that the servo does not work nearly as hard. Wear and tear on the servo,,and the linkages and the tail rotor assembly should be most near eliminated,,,,,,, and I'm sure the servos current draw went way down.
So,,,,I figure this is a very good investment.
It cost me $19.90 for the bolts and shipping. I will get the 600 mod when he has them available!!
