Hey Dube, I just picked this kit up today. My son bought it for me for my birthday. $70 bucks at the electric flight expo. The vendors were all "eating the tax" today, so it was $70 even. So as soon as I'm done with the G5 I'll start this one.

good job doozer, its a sweet heli, mine is still in the works do to being side tracked from these foamies, i have every thing but the servos . i dont no were i want to go on this thing, the fiber frame takes minis, and the plastic frame takes the standerd ones. if i go with the plastic, i have to use the belt, if i go with the fiber frame i can go eather way, tork tube or belt, confused heres a place for great prices, www.allerc.com out of texas. and a gaui forum. gauihelicoptertalk.proboards.com/index.cgi

Nope... I got two Hyperion DS13 GCB's 450 tail servos. I've got a DS20 that I can use on the tail of the 425. I'm going to stick with the plastic frame. $70 dollar frame... I might go back and get another frame tomorrow, but I went way over budget today... I'll have to work some overtime next week : / Anyway, I'll probably just stick with something simple for servos and put a decent gyro on it.

Hey dube, Mind if I put some build photos in this thread? I could start one of my own but i think having information in one place would be beneficial to anyone else who decides to build this heli. I'm not going to throw up a thousand pics like I did in my last build... but maybe just a few...
I just built the frame. I have the gears in, and the bell cranks on. I'm getting ready to take the head apart and check it for thread lock....
To be continued

OK, thanks man. This thing is about a month away from getting in the air too. I need a motor, speed controller, 4 servos, blades, and a battery before this thing sees any air time. So that's probably about a month away.
I'm planning on a scorpion motor and speed controller. I'm just not sure about voltage yet. If I go 6s I'm going to need the metal grips. So I might fly it 5s. I want to try and keep crash costs to a minimum.... plastic is cheap to replace. One thing is for sure, 500 is a good size. Small enough to fly in small areas, but big enough to see in air.
I'm flying 7 helis now and that's about 3 too many I think. I'm going to retire two when I bring the Gaui into the fleet.

OK... I've got the heli built. No electronics yet, though I do have a couple of AR6100 rx's. Also, I have a couple of different options for Gyros but both are CYJE's "G" series. That means I can't use the Hyperion servo I have for the tail. So I need a motor, a speed controller, a BEC, batteries, and 4 servos and some 430 blades. I've decided I'm going to go 6S. I have two 3S 2200's I could run together, but I'm not a big fan of doing that. So My battery choice will probably be a 6S 2200. I've seen them as low as $88 dollars. Anyway, The build was very easy. If I wasn't stopping to take pictures I could have done it in a few hours. There were very few things I didn't like about the heli so I'll start off with them: The tail blade grips are funky. Bolted together with a couple of nuts and bolts. The cool thing is that these bolts had thread lock on them. The screws that hold the grips to the hub, much like every other screw on this heli had no thread lock. I ran through every screw on each prebuilt piece... no thread lock. I've said this before, but I really wish the manufacturers would either thread lock their screws or not pre-build them. What I really like was the head design, and after I re-assembled it there was no detectable slop. After I bolted the body together there was no slop in it either. Very nice for a plastic frame. The tail had no slop either. Also, this is my first heli where the tail servo is mounted on the frame. The belt is very robust. I haven't seen a belt that thick, and the teeth are very large. Here are some pics side by side with my 600 It doesn't come with that canopy. I've had that for over a year. It was a mistake I made when ordering a canopy for my 450 HDX. I kept it. For the money, you can beat this heli. This kit is a steal at $79 dollars.

1 x JR DS3500G Ultra Speed Mini Gyro Servo - Mini Heli Tail Rotor (JRPS3500G) = $79.99
1 x 430mm PRO 3D CF Carbon Fiber main blade - T-REX500/HDX500 (DY-4301) = $21.42
CHP-G012 CHP-G012 Custom Heli Parts - Spektrum Carbon Fiber Servo Double Arms (Offset) (Hurricane 550) 1 $8.99 $8.99
My son bought me the speed control for my birthday. My other son bought me the kit. They aren't rich. They're college kids....
There are the electronics that are going in this heli. I have a "Solid G" that will be going in this heli. I've got some 7.4 1100's I can use for a seperate BEC. I still need to make a decision on that. I was torn between the Scorpion 1400kv motor and the Tonic X 1470, but in I chose the Tonic X. Not for any other reason than to test out their motor. They were the same price.
