Yeah Dooz, the 3G is what I want but I'm laid off from work and moneys tight. A $150 gyro and a $60 set of blades is still not $400.

After some reading and seeing what others are doing,I've decided againt the FBL for now. I don't fly well enough to re-learn it all.
I ordered some smaller lipos than I usually use. Gonna try a couple different sizes before I order more. I got one 2450mAh 30C 6S and one 2200mAh 40C 6S. Very light packs.I want to see the difference in power before ordering more.
I also got a Turnigy 85amp BESC.Still trying new stuff.Cheaper too. I have the 401 gyro Elk gave me installed. It works really well except that I can't figure out how to use dual rates in each flight mode. I can get it to work in HH in NORM and Rate in idle up but I can't get it to switch rates in each mode.
Any ideas?

Found the problem. My GEAR switch doesn't work. That explains tons about my gyro issues lately and even the Helicommand.

I was doing it wrong. If you set the gyro to the gear channel, the switch is inhibited. So I set the gear to gear and use ATV's as gain.

Got the 500 airborne but not for long. The Turnigy ESC works really well. I ditched the GY401 gyro for a GY48V. Gyro worked well. The 2200mAh 40C lipo was peppy as heck. Hit idle up and the tail blew up. I have no idea what broke to cause the mess since almost everything was broken afterwards. I would almost swear the tail blade broke first before it even touched down. The severe bobbing after cause a tail strike. I swear I think I saw the blade ricochet of the bricks while the heli was still in a safe hover. Then it just went to s#!t..... I'm going back to my old TT rear. Took the rotor head off to start working on the ESC and motor.Safety first... Got the ESC all hooked up and the motor spinning the right direction. The ESC has a remote ON/OFF switch.I like it... All done... After the maiden....

Wow! The tail blade blew apart?!? I've never had that happen before.
I have been eyeballing that Turnigy ESC, too. Gabe was talking about it. I don't know if he got one too. They sure are a good price and they talk about using non-Chinese Fets in them. All good!
What kind of headspeed are you running? Kent

I think it would have been in the 2800 range. I had a serious brain fart. I had the tail box apart and basically put it all together finger tight until I got some more Locktite. Not only did I not Locktite anything,I didn't even tighten it. This was a month ago and I just forgot. Got the ESC and everything wired up and ran one lipo through in the living room to set up the gyro. Then I just went outside and fired it up.
Every screw was loose and half were backing out. damn I'm dumb sometimes.Just too big a hurry to fly,now it's grounded for a couple more weeks.
Glad I developed a good fleet over the winter.lol... The SR and 250 are getting a workout.

I really like the Turnigy ESC by the way. Running it for 5 minutes got the motor pretty hot since everything is stiff but the ESC didn't even change temerature. It was cool to the touch.
It has an on/off switch too. If you turn it off and leave it plugged in,it will start an audible alarm in a few seconds to remind you to unplug the lipo.
It comes programmed for a heli with soft start set to medium. It has more options than Align ESC's too.

Is the timing possibly off making the motor run hot? With one of my Turnigy motor/ESC combos, I had to change the timing as it would run hot and 'skip'.

The timing is set to automatic.I may change it to low. The soft start has three levels and is set to medium. It spooled up about right.
