I ordered some parts from these folks. They emailed back and said one item was out of stock, did I want them to send everything else or wait for that part. I thought that was nice that they informed me right away and gave me options. They also take PayPal which is a huge bonus to me.

Most of these r/c etailers are legit. They make their money by trying to have great service. One negative post in R/C forums can be the kiss of death. Its the crappy few that make you look with a skeptical eye at the rest. I haven't heard anything negative about Hobby-Wing.com. I haven't ordered from them before though.
This might be another good sub forum, retailer related issues. Just make sure that there is a strict format for people to follow, so that anger doesn't cloud fact.

Is it better to buy parts from an online store over seas or from an online store in the USA? The only pro I can think of is shipping time. All the prices seem the same

You guys in the US get pretty good prices on shipping from suppliers in your own country. We Canucks get much lower shipping fees from China than we get from the US. The time to get the parts is about the same from either source. For example (and I can talk about this here) Doozer has a post on here about the Trex 250 shipped from China for $18. When I bought my first heli (Belt CP) from XHeli, I paid $72 to get it to Canada. Normal shipping. I'm a little smarter now. As for Hobby-Wing, I've never tried them. They seem to favor Walkera products. I prefer Esky.

Ordering from China is only because you can't find it from a supplier in the U.S. While the parts maybe somewhat less expensive, the shipping/handling cost will add back the cost of the parts you are getting. The cost from China is expensive because of the difference. Additionally, the time for delivery can be longer than shipping from within the U.S.
With regards to hobby wing, I have not ordered from them. They remind me of some ESC brand.

Is it better to buy parts from an online store over seas or from an online store in the USA? The only pro I can think of is shipping time. All the prices seem the same In some cases the China based e-tailers have different products. For instance, there are many people into modding the Honey Bee Fixed pitch. I can go to Miracle Mart right now and get everything I need in one shot. Not one of the U.S. etailers I normally use can provide that service for me. Also, like solitaire said, I bought my Trex 250 from a U.S. site for $429. Miracle Mart had it for $368 and $18 dollars shipping. That's $40+ dollars less with the shipping included. I could have EMS'd that for another $4 dollars. So not all prices are the same. It's been my experience that U.S. prices aren't cheaper than china prices much if at all. That being said, there is some security in being able to pick up the phone and talk to someone.... anyway have a good night... leaving work ....now.
