Here's where I'll show you what happens when you smack an EPP plane in!!! I smacked it in, and it popped the battery off, then popped the prop sideways. Well, I put the battery back on, and pop the prop back in place and it's ready to FLY!! Try that with any other plank!!

OK, I can't tell if you nosed it in to make a point or just dumb thumbed it. Neat vid either way.

Hey Kent, I went to my LHS and talked with the owner a little. He doesn't sell foam, but he does build scratch builds. He had a Yak that he uses for combat flying. He made his out of foam presentation board. The kind of stuff you find in the poster board section of the office supply stores. About 3/16 in. thick. Not made for crashes, but it is more sturdy than I thought it would be.
BTW, our area Hobby Zone sells EPP and Depron. I'm going to pick up some EPP next week.

That's awesome, BT! Yeah, the foam board at Michaels and the like is paper backed. It is not as good as depron and nothing like EPP. Some folks use it, but I looked at it and no thanks. It's heavy, too. Some folks soak that stuff with windex to remove the paper and then it's supposed to be better. I'm too spoiled for that kind of work!
Our LHS sells depron, but not EPP. They want a LOT more money for their depron than grayson hobby, and since I now have a major addiction to foam, I buy it from Grayson. Their shipping is amazingly low for such a huge box, too.
But that's great that you can pick up some EPP locally! I think once you get the hang of building these things, and after you crash a few dozen times without any damage, I would love to hear your feedback! I went out today in 25mph gusting winds. Way too much for all of the helis and planks for me. Unfortunately, that's even too much for the F22. The gusts just grabbed it and threw it into the trees. I had to throw rocks to get it down. I've done that before! NO DAMAGE, but the paint got a little scuffed. I just chuckle every time I pick up one of these things after a crash and nothing is wrong with it!
Please keep us posted BT on what you build! Kent

Oh, I reread your post and the LHS guy flies combat! I would LOVE to find out something about that! I have seen just a little about it and you put long streaming ribbons behind your plane and you try to cut the other guys off! That sounds like a BLAST! I don't think they do that here. Kent

OOPS! the download didn't work.
I've seen some of the combat flying. It can get pretty insane with really fast planes. Reminds me of what military pilots call a "Fur Ball". A bunch of pilots with every pilot flying like crazy to get behind the enemy and shoot him down.

The links for a pdf don't show up if you're not logged in. So, they will not be visible to anyone browsing as a guest. Now, in 19k's defense, I was sure those links didn't show up last night when I first looked. Odd.

Kent,
I'm thinking about building this plane for my first 3D plank. My only question is, "Where the heck does the battery go?".

Well, I just velcro it to the side of mine, right above the wing. I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow.
It's amazing, but my original Yak55 is still flying! I have crashed that thing a zillion times and of course the 500 heli crashed into it and took huge chunks out of it! I just cut some replacement chunks and fixed it! You can hardly tell it's been fixed like that!
The best glue for this foam is Welder glue from Lowes.
I built mine with hot melt glue and have repaired it uncountable times with it, and the hot melt weight has built up. Hot melt is HEAVY. Welder is really light. Kent
