I think I had got smacked in the head the night before in a match, because all morning I was having a little trouble with orientation. Felt lime a noob for some reason. Took her in for a super low pass and she was starting to lean right due to the wind - so I gave her more right aileron and drove it into the ground right wing first. The foam exploded, the battery was 10 feet away and the electronics were scattered.
I have an issue now with one of the servos. It feels like the right aileron doesn't want to respond as well at full throttle. Actually, both are that way. I wonder if it's because I soldered an extension onto the servo wires, or if something else is wrong. I may just buy 2 new servos and see what happens then.
As far a s orientation- she's a snap. All black on the bottom an the yellow is so easy to spot!

Oh yeah, its waaaay easier to see now. There's absolutely no doubt which way is up. One side is black and as soon as you see yellow you know you are good.
I'm still pushing the stock motor to its limits. Propped up to the 6.5x5.5 prop and switching between 3S and 4S - either way its retarded fast. I had some issues with the stock servos after the rebuild. I'm pretty sure one of them was failing so I bought two new JR MC35's. Almost a perfect fit - just a little trimming required.
I gotta pick up some new control horns. These seem a little short. Even with the pushrod clevis set on the lowest hole, its still not quite enough roll or pitch for me. I think I actually have to order these from Horizon since my LHS doesn't carry them for the JRs. Bummer.
Kinda neat, I was able to fly in 15mph winds today with higher gusts. It wasn't pretty, but I was flying.

IMHO, I think your high speed pitch and roll are being inhibited as much by the proportion of wing to elevon as by elevon throw. I'm finding the same on the EPP F22. I'm going to steal your paint scheme for my Stryker. I love it! ;D

Its an easy one to do too! I just taped the yellow out first and painted the top. Then taped again when it was dry and left a little white pinstripe. I painted everything else black - simple! Check this out. Mid flight the motor quit. I figured it had finally given out on me. I was wrong. The motor casing had actually separated from the top of the motor: Craziness. I actually was able to find the prop on the field too. The collet and spinner had completely come off the shaft with it and were all together just laying there. Off to HobbyTown USA to get a new one.

Yeah, I guess you are pushing that stock motor!!!
I have never seen one come apart like that!
I agree that metal geared servos might be a good idea since you are pushing it hard now. Cool stuff!! Kent

Kent I have only heard about motors coming apart like that. Definitely time to up the ante and get a better motor.

Bought the BL1 from Eflite but the bolt pattern won't line up in the stock mount. Ordering one from Gary at customrcparts.com. All the Stryker guys use him.
I ordered a new fuse too to start the 140mph build.

I will be installing three cf tubing spars. One will be along the trailing edge running from wing tip to wing tip. The other two will be along side the stock ones running along the leading edge of the wings. Balsa elevons are a must as well.
Also, I will be hollowing out the battery bay to make room for a 6S battery. Probably gonna use a Phoenix ICE 120A ESC.
I just contacted Gryphon about ordering the custom Mega motor for this beast.

Let's see if I can pull it all together. I'm thinking it should take 4-5 weeks to build the motor, then Gryphon is gonna bench test it with different props for me. So probably a two month build process. I'm hopingto have all the elevons, fuse upgrades, and paint done by the ime the motor gets here. It should just be a plug and play deal at that point.
