That's a jet I've always wanted in RC. My dad and I built 2 free flight Sabres when I was a kid. One was about 18" in wing span the other about 32". Both were made by Guillows I think. Stick and tissue build. You had to carve the nose out of solid balsa. Both were powered by Jetex solid fuel rocket motors and they didn't fly well, the motors were totally unreliable, but they were beautiful. This new plane is no Habu. This is a plane that will need to be flown at full attention. You'll need significant, smooth takeoff runway and the landing speed is going to be very fast. The airfoil is very scale. Subsequently, handling at low speed is going to be terrible. Tip stalls will happen. I'd want flaps too. Unfortunately I don't have a field appropriate for this awesome model. I'll end up with a foamie F86 with a stable airfoil and and an undercarriage suitable for grass landings. That's not all bad though. ;D

Good to know. Well, I've got my hands full with this new Stryker build so my bench will be occupied for a while. Plus, after the f-16 build, I'm not sure how much I trust E-Flite. Some things didn't seem well engineered on the plane (no air intakes for the electronics).

Eflite makes some good stuff, but they haven't been stellar in EDF's.

The only problem with fiberglass/wood planes is they EXPLODE upon contact with much of anything!
Even seemingly minor scrapes can total them.
But they sure do look purdy!
I have a built up (wood/ply) Eflite Ultimate 20-300 biplane that is powered by a Power 10 and 40 amp ESC. I have flown it very little, as I know how fragile it is. But man does it look nice. It is beautiful to look at and also in the air and flies exactly like an Ultimate should fly. It will do everything, including tip stall if you get it going too slowly. So it does have some bad habits, just like the real ones.
When I started flying the Parkzone stuff and then these scratch foamies, it changed my whole outlook on planes! These are so amazingly stable to fly! They didn't have this kind of stuff in the old days! Kent
Just in case, a tip stall is when the plane is slowing down and all of a sudden, it falls to one side and aims for the ground. When it does this at low altitude, you will be in trouble. With the Ultimate, I tested that at altitude and was able to easily come out of it. So I knew then to land fairly hot.

Yep, Kent's right. One bad landing and those FG models can be toast.
And in "(my) old days" we didn't even have glass. It was just wood and silk span. 1000 hrs of work to build. 500 to rebuild...If you were lucky. ;D I don't miss the old days either.

Whoah! Jeez!
Well, when I'm done with my current projects, maybe I will pick one up for the heck of it. I don't think I would use the Delta V though. I know there are much better fans and motors out there. My buddy just ordered a custom one for his Habu that should take him up to 200mph (with airframe mods and some sort of coating on the foam he said). A composite fan and spinner and a much more powerful motor sounds like the way to go with this plane since it is so rigid.

POWER, YES!
I witnessed a 200+ mph EDF at the Austin flying field a few weeks ago! Someone said 250mph+. All I know is that it was pretty much invisible to my old eyes as it passed.
His plane was pretty much all battery. I never was able to ask what kind of EDF, motor, batts, etc. He had a lot of folks around him after those passes. I heard rumors of 24s batteries! Kent

That's almost beyond comprehension. I had no idea there were EDF's capable of that kind of speed. And, a 24s batttery forget about it. ;D

Whoah! That's incredible! Must have been a big fan with lots of room in the fuse for the custom 24S lipos! Sounds right up my alley

There was another fast jet man at the field today! His primary jet hits 180 with a 100mm fan and 12s (2 x 6s batteries). He has a GPS in his jet! It's a small Garmin that looks awesome for this kind of job. He hit a tree on final approach. Airframe was TOTALLED. 1100 bucks. But all of the electronics and the EDF unit were fine. The EDF said Castle on the side and was all carbon. Beautiful piece of work.
He also has a smaller jet where they have a speed contest going on over at RCGroups. He is hitting 113, hoped to hit 130+ today, but it was too windy. It was too windy for the faster one, too. He thinks a gust slowed it down on approach when it hit the tree.
The glasswork on the crashed one was amazing. It was super thin with carbon reinforcements here and there. The wing is super thin, too. Absolutely beautiful paint job. What a sad thing to see it in pieces.
I didn't ask too many questions, but I think the smaller jet was a Sapac Viper. It was beautiful. Kent

I can't imagine how he felt totalling such a fast, and expensive, plane. Castle makes some good stuff from all reports. Sapac seems to be popular with the uber speed crowd.
