This was funny,,,,and I really wish I had it on video,,LOL.
Up here in the U.P. we use burn barrels,,,55 gallon drums to burn our household refuse. Saves on Waste Management fees.
I was in my back yard flying my T-Rex 250 SE,,,it was way too windy at my flying field and I have woods all around so it wasn't too bad,,,just a lot of gusts. The flying was choppy.
The sun was shining on the burn barrel,,,my wife had burn some garbage. The smoke looked cool so I got to thunk'n,,,what would that smoke do when I ran my 250 thru it? I'd get a good look at the rotor wash. So I buzzed over there and flew right over the barrel,,,pretty slow,,,,,,well,,,a gust hit and my heli dropped into the barrel,,,,before I could react and hit full cyclic,,,the rotor wash must have fanned the smoke/fire real good because the barrel erupted and my heli came shooting out the top followed closely by a huge shooting flame!! COOL AS HELL!!! LOL.
I landed to check my heli figuring I have melted parts all over,,,but other than some soot,,,the heli was fine. Wiped it off and flew again!!
I don't want to risk that again,,,but trust me,,,,,if I had a drink or two and an audience egging me on,,,,I'd try that again just for the laughs. Thats was totally Da Bomb!!!!

You NEED to just bring your camera with you ALL THE TIME! You have too many moments that should be captured on video!!!

Kent is right,,I just need to have a camera rolling on me all the time,,. It stuff like this that makes this hobby so much fun,,,when the heli fell into the barrel and exploded,,I got such a HUGE adrenaline rush,,,one of those frightening lightning bolts that shoots thru your head and ties a knot in your sphinxter,,,LOL. {{there's a visual for ya}}}  Real soon I'm going to rig my 500 up for night flying again,,,we all know what happened last time,,  Any volunteers to run the camcorder??  |
