I just installed ailerons on my 3d F-22 (the light one) and it handles WAY WAY BETTER!! High alpha is GREATLY improved and it actually hovers now! The ailerons follow the elevons, so in high alpha or when doing loops they act as spoilerons. Cubans are much faster now, too. Here is how I did them. It was a little more difficult as I mounted the servos on the inside of the runners. But it works fine like this. The throw on the ailerons is much less than the elevons, but they make a huge difference! This thing almost rolls as fast as my little delta! Here's a few pics: I just guessed at a size and cut one side. I then used that cut out one as the template for the other side. I used tape for the hinges for now. If this comes loose, then I'll do something else. So far so good through two batteries. Here is the bottom side: Servo closeups: Kent

I got my little keychain cam in like BT's! It's really an amazing little thing. I taped it to the wing and flew it... Towards the end, I took it up a few hundred feet. On the way down a gust caught it and it crashed. No damage, as usual! I REALLY love this thing now! Kent
Here's the video!

Very cool Kent How do you make the ailerons operate independently of the elevons or is it two sets of elevons?

It really has TWO sets of elevons! The ailerons on the wings though act like ailerons, spoilerons, and flaperons, all at the same time!
In no way did I invent this. It was first done by RCPowers, I think. Gabe posted a link for their F-22 that has these.
It's way cool!
You NEED some, 19k! I'm putting them on my go-fast F-22, if I can figure out how to. I may have to add more servos to that one, as it's elevon servos are too far back. I hate to relocate servos on this foam, as it looks bad where you removed them, but I may do that anyway. That way I can mount them on the outside of the rails. Kent

Great idea Kent. I was about to get bored with the F22. I'll build me a new one with the ailerons when I get some of these other projects done.
I'd like to get a bit more flight time too. Have you tried 1300's yet? I couldn't get the CG right. I might try pushing the motor back a little to accomodate the larger battery and balance the plane. What do you think?

Yup, I had my Starmax F-35 set up as an elevon plane. Unbelievable maneuverability.
You can always pick up some mixers from Grayson Hobby when you decide to add more servos. This will allow you to run two servos into one y-harness and still have the mix you desire.

These don't need mixers, Gabe! The ailerons follow the elevons exactly! Just a Y would do it.
I'm building a 1.9# EPP Edge 540 as we speak. I am going to build a custom elevator driven by two servos. I want to see how this arrangement works with a 3d beast! I have never seen anyone run elevons on a 3d machine, much less ones that follow the ailerons!!
I just have to try it. Even if it's really stupid, or if a whole lot of folks have done it before...But, I have never seen or read about it being done. Kent
