Check this out guys. Went up earlier tonight to get a spare motor I had stored away and found this. I am still shaking from it to think what it could have done. Guess I am one lucky fellow Learn from me. Dave

Dave, you're telling us this is how you found the LiPo? It was in storage that way? Was it stored fully charged? I've read lots of incidents where LiPo's have puffed from overcharging or over-discharging, but this is the first time I've heard of one puffing while just sitting. Now you're scaring me.

To tell the truth Bob I don't remember how it was put away. All I know is that when I found it I almost stained a pair. Never and I mean never will one of my lipos be stored out of sight unless it is in a metal, lockable container.

Yikes!
The only time I've heard of a lipo puffing, not related to over charging or discharging, was when the ambient or storage temperature was very high. Like 90-100 degrees ambient. Or high storage temps, for instance, if you have one in a car and it's closed up in the heat. That could be 130 degrees or more.
I've never heard of a lipo just puffing up without any heat or pressure or punture being involved.

That is scary! Ive also had a lipo battery puff when it was just sitting there. I was storing it in a lipo bag and didnt use it or look at it for a couple of weeks. Then one day opened the lipo bag and saw that one of the cells was puffed it didnt catch fire but it did shock me when I saw it.
I didnt know lipos would puff if they werent being used or charged. It was in my house at room temperature, I dont remember if it was discharged or charged.
Dave was that battery by any chance the stock lipo that came with your g2?

ALL of the Zippies that I bought a year and a half ago are puffed. They ALL have lost capacity in a major way and they ALL are in an ammo can waiting a trip to Radio Shack. I did reduce them to storage charge with my chargers before putting them away.
I replaced all of those earlier this year and already a few of those are puffed. Not bad yet, though.
In my puffed junk pile are several batteries from a friend in Houston who flies a Trex 450 and a few others. None of his were Zippies or Turnigies, but they puffed just the same. I don't remember the brands.
A couple of my new puffers have not lost much capacity yet, so I'm still flying them.
I hate puffers. Kent

Oh, and there was a fellow at the flying field with a large electric jet who crashed. He was flying several 5000ma batteries in series and the crash smashed them all. These were smoking at the crash site, but none were burning.
We took the smoking ones back to the field parking lot and proceeded to poke and prod them! We could only get a flame out of one of em. The rest had just a lot of smoke.
I would love to see a 'normal' Lipo fire, either from damage or whatever abuse was done to them. So far, the only real fires I've seen are from U-tube where God knows what they really did to those batteries.
I am beginning to think that these Lipo fire scares are mostly a bunch of hogwash. Kent

Wow, what was the temp where you were storing those Dave? That is crazy. I keep my lipos in a big metal pot with a lid most of the time. I'm just a little worried that if one goes up in flames, they all go up in flames and the pot won't be enough to contain it. Glad to hear it wasn't any worse for you Dave.

It was in the house, 73 - 79 year round. Got to trying to remember and I believe it was put away with a full charge, that way if I need it it is ready to go. Maybe a small charge needed. Thing is I have a second one just like it and not an issue with it. It gets used in my G2 all the time. Going to take a trip out this weekend and see if I can find some type of metal container to store ALL my lipos in now that this has happened. Dave
