Spent two days at my folks' place in NorCal this week. My dad and I put a Stryker together the first night, with no luck getting the co-pilot to work.
We went to a huge park the next morning and hooked up the trainer cord to two DX6i's. By the second flight he had his orientation dialed in fairly well. He flew for about 2 minutes straight without. Me having to take over. I told him once he can fly out a pack without me taking over, then we'll work on the landing and the launch.
He was like a kid in a candy store - loved every moment of it!

That is awesome!!!
And with a freaking Stryker no less!
What a great way to have fun with your Dad!
I love it, but I'm a little jealous of your dad. My kids are all girls! Kent

Good stuff, Gabe. I just wish my Dad was still around to share this hobby with. He was a pilot (among other things) in WWII. And Kent, girls fly too.

I'm so blessed to have both my folks still. It's strange though- for once in my life I'm the one doing the teaching. It's always been the other way around.
Best couple hours I spent with my pops in years.

Yep, dave's right gabe. There is hardly a day I fly that I don't think how much my dad would have loved the state of the art hobby we enjoy so much today. I think of him in particular when I fly the F-86 because we built 2 of them that we flew together when I was about 9-10 years old. Great memories.

I hear you on that, 19k.
Dad and I built scale war planes when I was a kid. Mostly RAF stuff, but we hadn't delved into radio control at that point. Now, forward about 30 years and he (unbeknownst to me) started up again with balsa and ply. He had started a scratch built high wing that he never finished before his demise in 1990. Mum asked me and my brother to come and go through his stuff in storage and take anything we wanted. Among the few items I took, was the high wing fuse and tail, but the wing wasn't there. Anyway, after hanging on to this since 1990 and not doing anything with it (too lazy to build the wing for it and too sentimental to chuck it out), I was visiting my brother a few months ago and in his hobby room was the wing for that plane. No idea how he got the wing and I got the fuse, but now I can finish the project. Probably won't fly it, just keep it as a memorial.
