Hey boys! Anyone know a good aileron trainer with anti-crash technology? I was unable to get the co-pilot II system to work when I taught my dad how to fly. I saw the Champ from Horizon, but it doesn't have ailerons, and he's not up to par for building them. Any help would be great

You might consider the Ultra Micro T-28 coming out in about a month. (if Horizon Hobby isn't lying again). Check it out on their website. I don't think that it has ACT though. BNF version is $99.00.

Good info. My poor pops would have been crushed.

Yep, the ACT system doesn't work very well. The first thing I did after my wife crashed the SC; was to unplug it. What I did find useful was the "X" port for dropping bombs and parachutes, etc. It was a good tool for learning aircraft contol and positoning over the ground.
The BNF SC 2.4 has a port for ailerons, so all you need is to cut the ailerons in the wing and add 2 servos. Walah! Great aileron trainer. It also has a port for a brushless ESC so you can upgrade the power system to brushless.
I agree that the micro T-28 "should" be a good aileron trainer. None in the real world yet, so we'll have to wait until some novice pilots get them in their hands. If it is at all like the park sized plane it will fly very well and like the other micros; be very crash worthy as well.

I found the micro's kind of fragile for a first trainer. As easy as it is to tape and glue them back together, my P-51 took quite a beating due to the servo sticking on the ailerons while at full deflection. I think I may just get the SC for Xmas for my pops and spend a day cutting out the ailerons.
Anyone have an idea of the appropriate dimensions and location of the ailerons for the SC?

Cut the ailerons as deep as you can into the wing cord as you can without interferring with the strut mounts in the wings. You need to retain the struts because they are functional. Make the ailerons as long as possible because the wing area is so large that the more aileron you have the more responsive the plane will be to aileron input. Use hinge tape on both sides of the ailerons and center the servos along the length of the aileron. Your dad's gonna' have some fun with it.
