Hello everyone! My name is Gabe and I have been chosen to lead this section of the forum. With a few of our members reaching plank speeds in the triple digits, we have decided to start a Darkside Status Club! After careful deliberation and discussion with our senior members and several members of the Darkside Stryker threads over on RCuniverse.com, I have outlined the requirements to achieve Darkside Status. They are listed below: DARKSIDE STATUS CLUB RC Heli Talk in conjunction with RCUniverse, Moparmyway, Gryphon, and other elders of the Darkside threads have created a status for those individuals who have constructed electric RC airplanes reaching speeds equal to or greater than 130mph. The requirements for Darksider Status are as follows:
1 The RC Airplane must reach a speed equal to or greater than 130mph.
2 The speed must be achieved on a straight and level pass. If the plane is coming out of a dive or if the plane is “diving”, the recorded speed shall be null and void.
3 Speed recordings shall be considered based on three methods:
3.1 Doppler Radar Gun: Speed shall be recorded on a straight and level pass with a minimum of 3 seconds of wide open throttle (WOT) on a straight and level pass, prior to reaching the Doppler radar gun.
3.2 Doppler Analysis via Video/Sound file: Speed shall be recorded on a straight and level pass and the instrument of recording shall be a stationary video camera with audio. A minimum of 3 seconds of WOT on a straight and level pass, prior to reaching the stationary video camera, and a minimum of 3 seconds of WOT after passing the stationary video camera on a straight and level pass. Passes should be as low as possible, preferably 5' off of the ground, but acceptable up to 50' with declining accuracy as altitude increases (speed recordings may be less than actual speed). Phoenix ICE logs, Eagle Tree data logs, or other equivalent shall be included with the video for verification of accuracy.
3.3 Eagle Tree Speedometer: Speeds recorded by the Eagle Tree Speedometer must be determined by a straight and level pass. A video of the flight must be included to demonstrate there was no diving prior to the pass. Final judgment of the validity of the speed recording shall be determined by an elder of the Darkside forum. Those that achieve Darkside status will receive a sticker for their aircraft and a T-shirt which they may display and wear proudly! Their names will also be posted in a sticky thread at the top of this section. Carry your status proudly, as only a small handful in the world have achieved Darkside Status! Good Luck!
