I've been waiting on something for this Nitro Heli ever since I got it. It's seen ZERO air time. At least from me. I got tired of fooling with Toki .40 engine, trying to get it started, so I bought an OS .50 from Ern. I ordered a conversion kit from Heliproz ( www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=412160) It includes Clutch Bell with bigger (mo teeth) pinion, flywheel, motor mount, and a pipe I don't need. I thought I could buy them separate cheaper, but as it turns out the motor mount and the clutch bell combined cost as much as the entire kit (read: cheaper to buy the kit and toss the muffler in a drawer). So anyway, I decide to try and figure out what's up with this Toki .40. It's not like I'm going to be using it for anything other than a paper weight anyway. So I take it apart, and I just have to shake my head... then kick myself in the ass for not buying Ern's heli. Here's some pics: The engine all torn down. I watched a video where Bobby Watts tore an engine apart and rebuilt it. So I gave it a try. From left to right, Crank Shaft, rear bearing, Piston, Piston sleeve. Yes that's rust. Yes the previous owner ran this thing lean. This pic and the next one are a couple of close up views of the crank shaft. I wish I would have taken pictures of the engine Ernie sold me. I had the back plate off to lock the crank shaft so I could remove the fan and flywheel. Ernie's engine is pristine. Rear bearing... I like to call it, "Ole Rusty." Even the outer race was pitted with rust. Couldn't do much better with this camera than this pic and the next one. I'm trying to show the vertical scratches on the piston. The piston ring was shiny, and broke when I looked at it wrong. I followed Bobby Watts' instructions on how to remove it.... it still snapped. Can you believe a piston ring is $20 f'ing dollars? A better shot of the scratching. I think if I would have flown this heli for much more than a couple of minutes it would have blown up. This pic actually makes the piston sleeve look pretty good. I promise you, inside, it's a war zone. Notice the difference in the screws. Neither screw is the correct screw and they are different sizes. I think this is where my air leak was coming from. So the moral of the story. Don't buy sight unseen, unless you know the person well. Buying from Ernie is not like buying from a stranger so that doesn't count. I know and trust Ernie. But buying from someone you don't know is a crap shoot, and I got the crap this time. I only paid $250 for the heli, but I've put $400 into it. I could have bought Dubes Rappy. Sorry for the wall of text. Just venting and kickin' myself in the ass right now.
