I am building my 1st 500 heli to add to my other 2 450's. I really like working on a bigger scale heli so far. As you know I bought Gabes old 500 and I decided to move up in size now. Again sorry about his misfortune.
I have it almost together and I still don't have any 6S batteries for it. I am to the point where I need to start setting up the electronics on it.
Do I need the 22.2v batteries or can I just use one of my 11.1 batteries to setup the ESC and servos and bind it? I do not plan on running the motor until I get the 22.2 batteries. I just want to setup the electronics for now. Would this be ok?
Thanks

The 11.1V 3S lipo's will be aye ok to work on the electronics.

Thanks Gabe!
I didn't think it would be a problem, but wanted to be safe than sorry.
Also Gabe, what timing works best for the Turnigy motors??? I was thinking maybe medium but not sure.

If you have two same-size 3S LiPo's, you can serial series them together to get 6S if you don't want to wait.
Now that you've finished the 450 and you're starting the 500, I think I'll move this to "Advanced" section.

I don't remember buddy. However, that ESC is programmed to work with the Typhoon. I think I found in the specs for the motor on Hobbyking's website.

I don't know if it's the11.1v battery, or if I need the 22.2 volts to run the ESC. I hooked up the ESC to my program card and nothing happens, weird. No lights, nothing. Would this be that the ESC needs 22.2 volts to operate? Guess for now I will run the settings you had Gabe.
Well just waiting on the batteries now and will see if she will live to see another day.
Same gear in each servo was stripped. Must be the week spot. All seem to be working fine now.
Another question I have is about the Gyro. The Spartan ds760 is this a rate gyro only, or is it HH also? When I go to HH I'm having problems with it holding.

The ESC should work with 11.1v, so there must be another problem. Is the programming card designed for the ESC? You should be able to run the Spartan in either rate or HH. The gain may have to be up a bit higher to get it to hold.

Yes - make sure the programming card is for the Hobby Wing Platinum. I seem to recall you mentioning you had an extra Hobby "King" ESC. That programming card would not work with this ESC.
Here's a simple trick: plug the motor into the ESC and the ESC into channel 3 on the receiver. Make sure the receiver is bound to the TX. Next, plug in the battery. If you here the, "Beep, beep, beep, baaaa-beeeeep!" everything is good.
The Spartan 760 is a HH gyro. What issues are you experiencing? Did you download the manual and go through the entire setup process? Remember to double check the pulse rate of the Spektrum tail servo you have. If it matches the Futaba S9257 that's on there, don't mess with the setup- it should hold like a rock.
Finless did a video on the Spartan setup on Heli Freak. It really helps simplify the process.

I have found on some ESC's that the programming card will not work if the motor is not hooked up.. Ray

My program card worked with the other ESC from hobby king, I will hook up the motor and see what it does. Maybe the motor has to be hooked up to make it work. The Gyro is working fine. The only problem I am having is when I go to HH it moves like it should except after I stop moving it, it starts to drift to full one direction if that makes sense. It works perfect other wise. Very happy with it so far, just need to keep playing with it to get it right. All I have to do is do some fine tuning on it and it's ready to fly. Here is a picture of it. Just waiting on batteries, and fine tuning.

I am going to have to order a Hobby King Platinum program card I guess since mine don't work. For now I will use Gabes old settings witch are most likely right any ways.
When I booted it up with the motor hooked up, I get 3 beeps, no Baaaah. Every things seems work ok, even the gyro. Have not tried turning the motor. I suppose it would not hurt with a lower voltage battery but will wait till new batteries get here for that test.

Hey Gabe, witch programing card is it? Is it the 15A - 150A programmer or what. Want to make sure I get the right one because it will probably take 3 weeks to get here, if it's like every thing else I ordered from them.

The Plush program card from HC works with Plush, HobbyWing Pentium and Volcano ESC's and won't handle the Platinum series.
Your HobbyWing Platinum ESC needs a HobbyWing Platinum Programming Card which you can get in the US a lot faster. The last one I got on eBay was $9
You may have some servo creep in your tail servo which you need to sub-trim out. One of the Finless' video on HeliFreak shows the procedure for this.

The tail should drift to one side. That's correct. If you want to center it for any reason, move the rudder stick on your TX left and right a few times.
Sol was right about the programming card. Not sure why you didn't get the last long beeps on the ESC. That's strange. Let us know if it spools up. Maybe try two 3S in series to test it.

Ahh! Sol summed it up great. I just removed a bunch of redundant stuff from my post. Good job, Sol! === I think though that Gabe had the ESC and motor all setup properly, so you shouldn't have to mess with that.
For the gyro, if Gabe can give you his gain settings from his radio, just use those and you should be good to go.
Best of luck. Kent
