Congrats on the move. Hope you're getting settled in.
That's almost unbelievable on the damage. It's like they were trying to break stuff.
UPS is a lot better at claims than the USPS but be prepared for them to turn down your claim and then you'll need to put pressure on them to get them to pay. They'll assert that you didn't pack them according to their shipping/insurance guidlines. They will protest the value and want receipts for everything. What a pain in the arse.

When I buy parts, I do whatever it takes to have the package shipped by any other means than UPS. They don't give you a reasonable time frame for delivery (by the end of the day came @ 6pm this last time), they'll drop your package at your front doorstep to fend for itself, and EVERY package I've ever received from them has had some sort of damage.
Conversely, USPS Priority mail gets here @ 1pm when my mail carrier arrives, is kept under lock and key until I can pick it up, the boxes look pristine every time I receive one, and is generally cheaper. I'm not speaking for anyone else here, because you may have a bad mail carrier. I'm just saying it's been my experience the USPS cares about my packages far more than UPS or Fed-EX, and they do it cheaper for what I purchase.
If you ask me, brown is the right color for UPS.

I could not agree more every single time I have used UPS I received it damaged it does not matter how you pack it either. One time I sent a package to my sister knowing how they are I lined the inside with 3/16 plywood and the rest Styrofoam. She got the package with the entire end tore out of the box. At that point I quit using them, my Huey body come shipped UPS (not my choice) and the box was beat to hell I was lucky it was packed so well and it did survive with a very minor hairline crack in the gell coat that I repaired rather than taking another chance with them.

There certainly are advantages to using USPS, but I'm just saying, their claim process and payment record is ridiculous.
I have received damaged pkgs from USPS. I tried to file a couple of claims. You have to go back to the sender, in most cases, to do that. The sender must have insured the pkg. in most cases. Then, they roll out their ridiculous packaging guidlines. I doubt that Ray's bomb proof pkg. would qualify.
Like most insurance claims procedures, trying to collect on USPS insurance is no different. USPS resists payment as much as they possibly can in hopes that you figure your time is more valuable than the claim and you will simply give up before they have to pay.
Having said that, I use USPS almost exclusively for sending packages for all the reasons Doozer and Ray listed.
However, I have never received a badly damaged pkg. from UPS. Just lucky, in that regard, I suppose. ;D

Humm, I haven't had a torn up package from any carrier in maybe 10 years.... I guess I've been lucky, too. Kent

The beauty of my situation is that I took it to a UPS mail center and had them pack it. Responsibility is theirs from start to finish. Lucked out on that one.

I did that once also Gabe I shipped something from Arizona while on vacation I let the UPS store pack and ship it with extra insurance. I got it in a million pieces as usual with UPS and it took almost a year to get the money out of them Good Luck.. Ray

Oh gosh. That's not encouraging.
Well, I've been flying the stock Stryker I bought my dad while the others are down. I misjudged a set of power lines on my landing approach -they were about 100 yards out - and I clipped them. Took the nose off and made a 4" slice on the leading edge of he wing. I think a little epoxy to fill the slice and some Gorilla Tape and I'll be good to go.
Just hasn't been a good month for planes.

The store that shipped my stuff called and left a message. She said it looks like the claim will go through since they have the pack and promise thing. Hopefully next week it will be finalized. One F27Q coming up!!!

Well, got 2 checks from ups today! Totaled a little over $1100!
As much as I'd like to go buy some toys right now, I have to put it towards a new car. Apparently, infant child seats don't fit in the back seats of mustangs so I was forced to buy a new car! Unreal!

Congrats on getting the checks! And, it sounds like you've got a new small addition. Congrats on that too. You can get used to sacrificing a few of your own toys for a while. You might go a few years without a sports car too. All part of the fun.
