And that's the main attraction of dollar tree foam. How else can you build a plane for a buck? Ive also learned alot of valuable lessons building this so far. Ive learned how to make ailerons and other things too.

Just ordered all the electronics for the Extra 300, should be here hopefully sometime next week. Then I can see how this thing flies.

Though a lot slower than your cub the reaction time and amount of direction change you get with the Extra is going to take a little getting used to. It's a whole new kind of fun.

I know what your saying 19k about its going to be different, I was watching a bunch of youtube videos of rcpowers extra 300. It looks like its going to be fun though.

I have a couple of questions on building the extra, when you install the ailerons and elevator should I use one piece of tape on top or one on each side. Also when I go to install the servos what glue should I use to install them? Something that wouldnt make the servo permanent, and I would hopefully be able to remove without ruining the foam.

Usually one piece of very sticky tape on the top is enough, but I usually put one on the bottom too.
Make sure when putting tape on the wing the control surface is moved to its maximum limit (pulling against the tape) when you apply it. I usually do the top first with the control surface all the way down and then flip the wing over and put the contorl surface all the way up and apply the tape. That should give you a very flexible hinge.
I like to use clear silicone for servos. It holds to foam well and comes off easier than glue.

Hobbypartz shipped out my order its going by USPS.

Well the package didnt come today, probably tomorrow. I dont have the extra built completely anyway. Today I made some control horns out of wood, they should work for now. I got the idea from Graysonhobby.

The package came yesterday, and I have the Extra almost ready for its maiden. The only thing I have left to do is make the pushrods for the elevator and rudder and install all the electronics.

Well. This has been the worst maiden flight EVER! lol. Destroyed itself in seconds. I had it all put together and ready to go Thursday, but the past two days have been rainy and today was near perfect.
I took it outside applied full throttle and did an underhand toss. The flight lasted about 2 seconds. The wings folded in midair and it came crashing down from about 25 ft. in the air. The good news is that all the electronics survived, and thats about all I care about on this plane. The two wing halves are damaged pretty good.
Hmm I thought the Dollar Tree foam with the paper backing left on would of been stiff enough, I guess not. Another thing that I should of done was launch it at half throttle into a hover instead of a full throttle launch. One thing that I can tell you is that it moves quickly, by the time I got my other hand on the tx it was almost already halfway across the field, and into the ground. I dont know if its worth fixing or not. The only damage is the two wing halves and a servo came unglued.
Well back to the drawing board...

Man, that's too bad. Surprised to hear the wing folded.
With these types of planes, I've learned, the hard way as usual, that launching at 1/4 throttle seems to get the best result.
You might want to step up to EPP. It's an investment, but a very good one. My, over year old, EPP F22 has got hundreds of flights on it and more than a few crashes. Most of the time there is no damage or it's so minor it's fixed in a minute with whatever adhesive I want to use.
Of course it costs you next to nothing to repair the dollar tree foam so I'd do that and think about the EPP for you next plane.

EPP does sound interesting, maybe Ill step up to that after getting some practice with dollar tree foam and find a build plan that I like.
One thing that I liked about the Extra is the build cost, I had less then $50 total in the extra, I borrowed a AR6110e from my Exi 450. I had about $2.50 in building materials, $2 for the dollar tree foam and about 50 cents in metal push rods.
The same day that I crashed the Extra I already started building a different plane. A jet, of my own design, I have no idea if it will fly or not. It uses less then one sheet of dollar tree foam and consists of 4 pieces of foam, the fuse, the wing, and the 2 ailerons. The wing span is 20 inches and so is the length. I don't know if I will add a rudder or not, I might just use elevons.
