The waves are supposed to be very nice this weekend. Headed to Cali for some camping and surfing with the kids (grown men and woman). We always have a blast. Leaving tonight at midnight, should be in San Clemnte by 6 am. Just in time to paddle out into some nice waves (predicted by swell watch).
I'm not taking in Helis... no room. Hopefully I'll get a break on a beach campsite (someone doesn't show), if not, I'll camp @ Camp Blue Jay on the Ortega highway (SR 74). Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone.

Last time I paddled out was at old mans. I love the San Onofre Area breaks. I'm hoping to get into that camp ground. Just a short walk to trestles. Cardiff is cool too. Tomorrow morning Trestles supposed to be 5 ft.... 7 on Sunday. I wont paddle out there though... that's a tough crowd.
Check swell watch Gabe. Look at the Imperial Beach prediction for Sunday Morn 6am... 12' . I'm a little too out of shape to paddle out there if it's going to be that big... but... I could catch the "conveyor belt" (rip) out by the pier. Just hoping the waters not to cold cuz I'll I've got is a springy. Big swells usually bring in deep water temps though... should be fun.

IB seems to always close out on me. The spot you may like is Sunset Cliffs. You can enter "ABS" at the church of the nazarrine college and walk down the sandstone trail. Huge left that holds up to 20' faces and about 100 yard ride. Shhhhh...it's pretty secret.

Had a lot of fun. We got a site at the San Onofre Trails a.k.a. the bluffs. Surfed there Saturday. The weather was beautiful. While Phoenix was raging in the 100's, we had 63 degrees @ 4PM. The water temp was beautiful. I wore baggies and a rash guard and was loving it. Then the wind picked up over night, and the rain set in. Blew out the waves. It was offshore yesterday, but switched around today and blew very hard... 25 mph at least. It was totally unrideable.
Gabe... I've seen IB big and peeling. IB is always a good time. Kind of a surf ghetto, we fit right in. Best tacos ever can be found right there. I've met some very cool locals there and I feel like I'm with family when we go there. I wish I would have had wifi at the campsite I was at, because I could have read your post. We were all pretty tired. We spent most of the night last night trying to stay dry and warm.

There's always next time buddy. Those spots will be there long after we're dead and gone - you got plenty of time!

Sounds like a great holiday Doozer. One of the nicest things about living in AZ is being able to get away to the coast in just a few hours when it's hot.
I never surfed in Cali but did quite a bit on Oahu's north shore. Scared the crap out of me everytime. Way over my skill level even on a good day. Even helped Hobie shape and glass a few of the boards at his first shop there. Great times.

very cool 19K. In Florida, I shaped/glassed/swept the floor/ran and got food/answered the phone/ etc. etc. for George Robinson (Balsa, Foam, and Balsa/Foam Hybrids). I didn't shape the balsa, that was all George, but I did glue the blanks together and chamber them. Good times.

I didn't get to do the final shaping either. Just the rough cuts. There was only one or two guys that Hobie would let final shape the boards and ONLY if he wasn't in town. Yeah, I did major gofor work too.
